To add complexity to the mix, the seller said they came off a 911!

Can I just say something? There is no such thing as all season tires. The producers have created a new marked, that´s it. Over here, all season tires are illegal..

Summer tires are hard rubber to get asfalt grip. Winter tires have much softer rubber for snow and ice grip. It´s that simple.

Do no buy the cheap stuff. You wouldn´t buy a cheap airbag or cheap setbelts, would you? It´s your safety we are talking about.

One example to underline my point: winter tires have twice the break length on asfalt than summer tires. Vice versa..

I have decided on the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S + tires and should be installed next week. For all you naysayers re A/S tires my snow tires will go on if the road conditions get overwhelming. I really want to experience an extended season of driving on non snow tires.....
Thanks for all your input.

I don't think you will be disappointed with that choice.

Sorry to hop on this thread, but I too need some advice on tires. I just discovered that my Michelin tires are 10 years old and have dry rot.

I know I want to replace with Michelin tires, and really wanted to get Pilot Super Sports. One problem, they do not come in the sizes I have on my 17" wheels, which are 205/50/ZR17 (front) & 255/40/ZR17 (rear). The closest available are 205/45/ZR17 & 245/45/ZR17.

I would really like to replace the wheels with 18" rims, but I can't find any OEM 18" rims that will fit my car. I love the 5-spoke rim, I think they were on 996' cars. All I have been able to find are 18x8 ET50 and 18x10 ET65, and from what I have read I don't think those will fit.

So, back to finding a 17" Michelin tire for my existing rims. Looks like all that is available in my sizes are Pilot Sport A/S 3 or PS2.

Not going to drive the car in the winter. Suggestions please.

You can also go with 225/45/17 (same OD) on the front. Supposed to give crisper turn-in but I haven't tried it myself yet. Next set.

I bought 18" BBS Sport Classic II's that came off of a 911. The fronts are 7.5" ET50 and the rears are 10" ET65's. I don't have spacers on the front, they fit fine without although I may bet 7mm spacers in the future just to push them out a bit. The rears required 20mm spacers and with them, the wheels fit perfect! I have the Pilot Super Sports and love them. Hope that helps

Talking to my local garage(I want to give him a try and would think that he would treat my oem rims better than Costco !?!)he recommended a summer tire that is a size that is not listed in the Porsche manual. To me this is a minus. I want the exact measurement tires as listed in the Box manual. 2. He did not refuse to put a/s tires on my Box but recommended I get summer tires as I already have the winter tires.

I favor the idea of a/s to extend the fall driving season but putting on my snow tires when the snow becomes more of a problem. I think that I have to get assertive with my local indy garage.

One more thing. If there is equal wear on my summer tires then an alignment is not needed - am I correct in saying this?

Love the phone dials on the Box. Now you have me thinking for my Boxster. Here is a set on my shark.

You do realize all-season tires is a North America only product, in Europe they do not have such tires.
