Insurancecompany covers engine/ tranny on cars up to 8 years.

I have never heard of this in Oz & I've been insuring multiple cars for over 30 years......

Will be headed back to SS Performance Hovedside | SS Performance
in 3,5 hrs to reset tranny and perform the last oilchange + filter. 100 miles each way. Stay tuned for more updates. Will the pan and oilfilter be clear of metal particles? I have a good feeling. And hey! I get to drive 200 miles in my beloved Box today, yay

Just came back from my 10000th. oilchange in 4 week at SSP, they also tried to fix the tranny but it's still not 100% right.. Probably needs a tranny flush. Will be doing that in october.

Anyhow... who woulda thunk this was possible in Norway in september

The started emptying the oil that they put in a couple of days ago.. this was supposed to gather all of the metal partciles that might still be in the engine

So far so good

So I now know I'm in the clear that there are no more metal particles inside of the engine. The lid that sorrounds the oil filter was also checked for metal particles..

Checking connectors for tranny. They were all fine.

They also did a full scan of the car and cleared some old error codes (MAF.. has been replaced last year)

Here is a 996 owner, not as lucky as me.. a full rebuild needed. Complete engine:

I have to correct you here. No balls are lost. There are two "washers"(?) / protective rings, before the balls. The first ring has been shaved, that is where the metal particles came from. The second ring is inctact. (I can´t remove any balls, from within the bearing housing, if I try)

It sure has been a bumpy ride and I have learned alot during this process. Hopefully, documenting my experience can help others in the future.

He went further. He said ALL of the engines in these models WILL fail eventually

Sure, it is only a theory, BUT -this guy has replaced three digit IMS´s and rebuilt almost 100 Boxster engines, so he has seen his share of these engines..

It´s a disgrace that Porsche doesn´t admit the flaw and offer something in return. The same mechanic said he had a guy in with his 987 that had only did 23.000 kms, IMS explotion.... It had done alle services at Porsche Center Oslo (bought the car there also) and got JACK S**T covered. No warranty covered this...

Good news on your IMS replacement, and the post change oil filter pics look great. I am inclined to agree with the mechanic that they will all fail at some point, the only thing is when - 10 or 250,000? It appears Porsche took three cracks at the design, and finally gave up with the 2009 changes. However, in the world of automotive manufacturers, they almost never admit to a mistake. That could lead to lawsuits (of course, this one did!)

The oil changes have washed out the loose metal fragments, but there are two things you still don't know. One: did the metal fragment score any of the vital engine parts (cylinder walls, bearings, etc.) before they were washed out in the oil flushes during the IMS repair? Two: have any of the metal fragment lodged in any of the lubrication channels that will lead to faster wear than normal? Hopefully, the answer to both questions is no.

There is nothing more preventive jobs for me to do on this engine. I have decided to drive it and not thinking about it may og may not break at any time..

It is neither. SSP has their own patented edition. Ever heard of SKF?
Bearings, units and housings - SKFUSA.com/Products

They have used SKF bearing-technology into their own IMS bearing product. Reinforced all over. Supposed to be better than LN Engeneerings IMS bearing by miles.

SSP do all of their own rebuilds* and create reinforced products. Look at the engine for the 996 in my pics. It will be rebuit with all stronger material to avoid oval cylinders.

*Knut Grave, main mechanic at SSP, has rebuilt almost 100 Boxster engines and have seen his fair share of broken IMS. I imagine he has had that in mind when creating his on bearing product.
