Slight Resistance when Shifting

I am a fairly new owner of my Boxster and not a very experienced Manual trans driver. When driving the car, I get some resistance when trying to shift gears sometimes. Not a lot, but enough to notice, and it does not feel like that when the car is stopped. Is this normal?

If you don't dip the clutch sufficiently you can get resistance.

Try making sure the clutch is fully depressed before you shift and see if that helps.

Beyond that, it may just be a little inexperience and not being used to the feel of a manual or not pushing the lever through accurately.

do you have the five speed or six?

The five speed strikes me as smoother shifting than the six. But overall its a clunky shifter, certainly if you've driven a really good one like the S2000. When my Boxster has been parked a while and its cold, it sounds like shifting gears on a tank. Once it warms up its totally different.

It is a 6-speed. It does not always give me resistance, and I think I am mainly noticing when shifting between gears with a bigger ratio difference, like shifting from 1st to 2nd, or down shifting from 6th to 4th; which should be fairly normal?

I think it is probably just my lack of experience with the car/manuals.
