I currently live in Columbia, SC and purchased an '02 Boxster from an after market dealer in Hickory, NC 2 or 3 weeks ago. Within the first week or so the ignition locked up on me and in the process, I may have forced something to break. Since then the ignition works intermittently. Sometimes the key won't insert... won't remove... will turn, but doesn't seem to engage or "click", etc... Then I let it sit in the garage for a few days due to weather and the battery drained (with the trunk closed). I'm reading these are a common issues and I'm experiencing all of them in one week of ownership!!! I'm hoping that the battery dying is a result of the faulty ignition switch and not another costly issue. Otherwise the car is fantastic and awesome to drive. Are these simple problems, or did I buy a lemon?!?!

Does anybody know of any good Porsche mechanics in Columbia , SC?!?!

Forgot to mention.... no owners manual.... no code for radio...

My brother has a 964 and lives in Columbia. He has has good experience with Doc's Garage located in Lexington.

The electrical portion of your ignition switch needs to be replaced. I bought a replacement switch on eBay for $11. The job can be done in less than 45 minutes, but you need patience and some flexibility. You can read my write up here: http://986forum.com/forums/347114-post16.html

Before posting, turn on your radio and hold down the TP button for at least 10 seconds. "Becker 1" will be displayed. Rotate the right knob (slowly) and it will display the Becker model number. Then rotate it again and the serial number should be displayed on the radio. Post both of those numbers at the site above and Loren will post up your radio code.
