2001 Boxster CAN bus?

I know from reading that the 2001 Boxster S did have the CAN bus wires installed in prep for the new DME from 2002 and on - but is there any CAN signals running at all in the 2001?

The data logger I use in my 2001 Boxster S racing car can collect additional data from the CAN bus, but I need to purchase a special cable that is quite expensive. I want to know if there is any signals there for me to get before I pay out for the cable!

The 2001 did have CAN bus technology in it, and I think it did use the bus for some functions, but I am not sure which ones are on it.

I think you can extrapolate from the issues associates with a 7.2 to 7.8 conversion. in that conversion, the functions that have to be changed to can bus are:

abs
hvac
cruise control

Can I therefore assume that I can collect things like RPM and Throttle position from the CAM bus on my 2001 Boxster S?

Hello - did you find out anything more than this thread? I am researching data collecting on my 01 Boxter S as well. For me though - I am also trying to get oil pressure which adds another layer given that the sensor that comes stock with the vehicle is an "on/off" type as far as I understand it.

Any details and suggestions much appreciated!

Nope. I found nothing to confirm if there is CAN signals in the wires on the 2001 Boxster S. So in the end I got a analogue to CAN bus converter to work with my system...

Please let me know what you find out if you progress any further than I did
