Among old friends....
Howdy,
roughly 1/2 year ago I switched to the "dark side" and exchanged my 986 for a 997.2.
So I now spend more time on 6speedonline and rennlist, and I though that eventually I'd close the (virtual) door on 986forum.
However, I have to say that 986forum is one of the funnest Porsche places to be on the web and I'll stick around.
After all there's only one forum with JohnnyDanger

Chris - Excellent point! After getting my 996, I also started spending more time on Rennlist where they have a very good 996 forum but its no where as good as 986Forum! This place rocks!

Rennlist is hilarious in a abusive kind of way. This is by far the best forum.

+2!
I recently purchased a 996 C4, and after my experience here and with other 986 enthusiasts, expected to find a similar 996 community. Not even close!

There is too much arrogance and too many smart ass comments on those other forums. Can't beat 986 Forum when it comes to friendly banter and a wealth of knowledge when you need some help or just want to read some nice poetry. Thanks to all my pals here I have been able to fix any problem that has reared its head on my Boxster. Now I think I'll listen to some more JD driving music.

The funny thing is that even in the Boxster forums on the other sites the discourse is also civil and rarely degenerates into insults like on the 911 forums.
Must be something about the car. LOL

I think this forum is amazing. Was surprised when I was searching around a while back if there was a 996forum just like ours but no dice!

I would agree... I'm the owner of a 2008 Audi A4 that is subtly (but aggressively) modified, and even on the A4 forums, you can get flamed for any small sign of weakness
I love this place and have learned a lot being part of this community.

Carefull with your accolades for JD guys - you'll be making him blush under his makeup....
On a more serious note, like a lot of people here I do all my own maintenance. I don't know just how much this Forum has saved me in time & money over the last 5 years, but the advice and guidance (given freely I might add) has been extraordinary.
Great place to belong to - even if some members do drive egg yolk yellow cars !!

The best forums of any kind are the ones where folks can share their experience freely and the knowledge they have gained on the topics.
Documenting the failures are just as important as the successes so folks know what does not work, and is possible when folks are not judgemental and dont take yourself too seriously.
The great forum here speaks itself that we are a great bunch of folks that like to share.

Ah, I have to admit reading JD's commentaries is one of the joys in life. Drivng my Boxster is another. And I've learned a lot. Speaking of that, I managed to pull off the front bumber inside of 15 minutes with the tidbits learned here. Sure beats the 2.5 hours using the pull the wheels/wheel liner method!
I'm now all prepped for my vacation up the PCH this Friday. Well as far as the car is concerned anyway.

I think this forum is rare air indeed. I frequent this and Pelican, this is my favorite. And we all enjoy the quirkiness that is our own Johnny Danger.
911 transplants are always welcome among the ranks here because we have far more in common than in difference.
