oil return valve?

Someone I know has been told by a mechanic that the 2.7 he has been looking at will soon require an 'oil return valve' that will necessitate the removal of the engine and about 11 hours of labour. Does anyone have any idea what he is talking about? Yes, there are oil return tubes (that should not require engine removal). Yes, there is the AOS which has sort of a valve (actually, a diaphragm) - replacement of it also does not require the removal of the engine. There are PCV's - and again, no engine removal required. Am I missing something, or is he 'getting the gears', so to speak?
