It's a piece of vinyl. Takes two seconds to rip off if you get bored of it. Definitely worth trying.
I think the stripes give the car an updated look from the Boxster Spyder and Cayman R getting lots of attention recently. It also adds some nice contrast when you have a monochromatic theme. Probably why the black graphics are popular on the orange, green and yellow GT3's. |

Yes, without the front bit.

Normally not a fan of stripes and bling. Have to say the black on yellow looks ok. And as been said, if you decide you don't like it it's easy to remove
Give it a go! |
Another nice thing about this mod; it's cheap and can be peeled of when you get tired of it. No holes drilled.

Hmm... I'm perseverating now ?

How about something simple like this ?
|
Oooooh, now that's opened it up! That's very understated!
|
Yup, I like the latest version. Elegant.

But where will it go? You have a scoop detail there?
My one concern is that a bunch is decals along the sills is a bit ricey Honda? I know it just one but add a quick bilsteins decal and maybe an Apexi decal and you see what could happen. I know you wouldn't go down that road but its the beginnings. Mostly just curious about placement as I mentioned above. |

Imho
I'm firmly in the camp of "it's your car, do what makes you happy." But, personally I feel less is more. No stripes for me.

I would add the front bumper segment. If it will fit at the same height. I can't tell from that photo.
Stylistically the door part ends at a "forward slash" slant. It might also look nice to have some sort of continuation of that theme on the the other end. I think it would tie up the two ends better. Maybe trim the length a little to fit that area before the front bumper side duct begins. That should give it a nice factory look. Again, if you don't like the front piece you can just peel it off. I paid $80 from the UK graphics guys for all four pieces. If you do install that front piece be sure to have it pointing down a few degrees. Since unlike door the bumper is not flat and actually turns in, sticking it flat (with like a bubble level) will make it look like its pointing up when you look at it from far away. |
How about a Mobil Pegasus for an outlaw look:

I like the original image posted. Goes well when the top is up.
I've never seen the dangermobile with the top down. |
JD, I'm not sure I carry much kudos on this forum so feel free to ignore me.......I stand right behind 'ploughing your own furrow'. If it feels good, do it. This thread has proved both emotive and decisive.
When I look at the D'mobile I don't see a bad decision so far. Therefore trust your thoughts and do what you feel looks right . If you smile when you walk out of your house with the keys in your hand then it was the right mod for you. If it feel wrong in a few weeks, peel it off. We are talking 3.6 transplant money and if a freshen is what's needed to stay 986, do it! Keep that steering wheel on the right though... Embrace your in 'UK' ness! And remember.... You are a peacock - so fly my brother! |

Applying Decals to a Porsche Cayman - YouTube took me about 30 minutes. I could probably do it in 10 minutes now. |

I like the stripe on the yellow. Or maybe it is because of the kit you have, but now that I have seen pics with and without the stripe, I like it with.
And what is the deal with the top? I haven't ever seen a pic with the top down either???!!! |

I've been looking around online, particularly eBay, for the best price on a side skirt decal set. And, I've discovered prices ranging from $39 to $175 for what appears to be the same item. With that said, is there a level or grade of vinyl that distinguishes one from the other that I should be looking for ?

Come to think of it, I still have a 9ff decal set somewhere. Eh ?

The $80 I paid from the UK guys, who do commercial applications, seem to be about right. No issues with the vinyl coming off. Might not want to overlubricate the metal as it will be harder to stick but if you're fussy it will be easier to reposition before you squeege out the air bubbles. You want to be very careful with the letters. Make sure they're well-squeeg'd and let it set for a bit before pulling off the backing. And go slowly and evenly when pulling off the backing. For the ends, I kept some rubber cement handy and dipped a toothpick amount on the extreme edges so that it would hold while it dried. I picked up this white tiny letter opener xacto type knife from Staples to cut the edges. The blade was barely a milimeter or two deep. |

Any thoughts ?

I bought Vinyl lettering for the plane and the cast premium vinyl is the most durable and guaranteed to last at least 5 years in direct sunlight without yellowing or otherwise degrading.
