No documentation from 1st owner. No water pump done with 2nd or myself. Therefore 40k miles likely on original water pump on 2001 base Boxster.

Very poor design....I've put two pumps on mine.
I purchased my 1999 Boxster in 2009 with 104,000 miles, and the pump went out a short time later. Then after reading Excellence Magazine, this forum and Renn Tech I changed it again after going 60,000 miles as preventive maintenance. I've got 182,000 miles on the car right now.

2 water pumps in 182,000 miles and you think that is a poor design?!?! I have not heard of a vehicle that went 182,000 miles without some parts needing to be replaced. I guess I should be really pissed that the timing belt needed to be replaced at 132,000 miles on my wifes car

2000 Boxster S, 106,000 miles, my service records atart at 60,000 miles but there has not been a water pump replaced since. Now a whole lot of other stuff has been replaced, AOS, MAF, Ignition switch, gas and oil caps, motor mount, all the little stuff that happens. But no record of a water pump. At my next service I am doing plugs and plug tubes and I may do the pump and low temp thermostat at that time. When I take it off I'll be able to see if it is original or not and will report back.
