What's Your Favorite Option or Mod?

Which option (or modification) makes the most difference in the enjoyment of your Boxster? The one that you can't live without?

Aside from all things that make the Boxster wonderful (automatic convertible top--unlike the new Spyder ), the handling, the styling, I have to lamely say I enjoy the sound system. I'm an audiophile, and I am so happy the previous owner paid for the upgraded sound system. It's fantastic with a CD (acceptable to most when plugged into an iPhone, but iMusic offends me) and the sound range is very similar to a Bang and Olufsen.

What's your favorite upgrade?

If you have to ask me, it'd have to be anything that adds more horsepower and torque. Honestly though, what gave me the most satisfaction would be my new exhaust, and rowing through the gears with a short shift kit with the clutch booster spring removed.

Mine is basic - the manual transmission. My 335i is steptronic, so the manual makes it unique for me!

I like the upgraded sound & torque that only 3.6L can provide! Bigger is better!

Music! I'm upgrading my sound system now. It already has the Kenwood DNX9980HD, Helix B Five amp, Infinity speakers in the front and sounds awesome. When I finally get the kickers in the door and the other Infinity speakers in the rear I'll be estatic.

There's nothing quite like a spirited ride through the twisties (or just straight line speed) while listening to some great tunes with the top down.

On my 2007 it's the auto dimming mirrors, much better then the ones that were on my Benz. On my 2000 'S' well it's probably 997 seats and Fabspeed exhaust.

Though on both cars mechanically the Akebono dustless brake pads ROCK.

Full spec suspension and r-compound tires. Handles like a race car and for me, that is what a sports car is all about.

Although that picture of BYprodriver's 3.6L sure makes me envious!

My favorite is the "S" model option, it is just more of everything good, and the smile just gets even bigger.

Being in California I thought the Seat warmer was a silly option for the original owner to get, but now that its been colder in the mornings its very nice to have a warm leather seat to nestle into.

The best upgrade hands down were excellent tires. The previous owner had these Continentals on the 17" stockers.
I went with Toyo RA-1's on 18" Carrera lights. Holy Cow. it was like a different car.
I was making up excuses to drive it. At the first autocross I remember thinking "even a monkey could probably drive this car fast".

A Boxster on mediocre tires is still good though. That's how good the car is out of the box.
Which makes options kind of pointless. However that didnt' stop me from putting in GT3 seats and Fabspeed headers/exhaust.

worst option (value wise) was to put in Litronic headlights. I spent $1400 (now probably a bargain price) and it was pure vanity. The car didnt' move any faster and it was all about looking up to date.
Best cheap mod was $80 for PORSCHE door decals. Totally reversible. Took all of 30 minutes to put on. When I added the 997 Turbo replicas a few people asked if I traded in for a new car.

jb92563; I love the seats too.

I have had back issues for the last couple of weeks and sitting in the Porsche provides relief. My fancy ergonomic office chair can't get close to it.

Hey, doesn't that mean I can claim the car as a medical expense?!!

If you can get your doctor to sign off on it. I joked with mine that I bought a $12,000 knee exercisor to assist with my bad knee and asked her if she'd like to sign a statement for the IRS. She didn't go for it.

However, my knee is getting stonger/better so I guess that is some consolation.

Hard to muster any empathy or sympathy from this end: http://986forum.com/forums/324787-post336.html

You gotta have some video of that! That deserves it's own thread. Heated seats is the option I don't have but wish I did.

Sorry AK, but with the top down in the twisties, the great tunes will be coming from my race exhaust. My radio or CD won't even be turned on.

We may have to agree to disagree on this one.

The most important item for me is the IMS Guardian. It gives me peace of mind.
Heated seats and good air cond. are also very important in this part of the world.

That looks like fun. Are those studded tires or just regular snow tires?
