Fluid complying with the DOT4 spec is fine. Many use the Ate Gold and Blue fluids, esp. if changing fluid as a DIY as the color change from gold to blue and back helps to know when the lines are bled fully.

Also with brake fluid, remember to always use a newly open container.

Careful, not all DOT4 specs are up to Porsche specs. They are "compatible", but the boiling point of regular DOT4 fluids on the auto store shelf are 100F lower than Porsche's. The ATE Super Blue and Gold donv mentioned have higher boiling points than the Porsche specs and much cheaper than the Porsche branded fluid.

Whatever you do, do not use DOT5. It's silicone based and will gum up the whole system. Several people (including me) have thought DOT5 was just better than DOT4 until asking about the differences.
