Automatic Airbag Shut-off

Can someone confirm if the 2006 987 has an automatic airbag shut-off in the event that the passanger weighs less than 100 pounds (for children)? Thanks. This is supposed to be an improvement to the 2005.

I can't confirm it but I doubt it. Here's some info on the deactivation kit:

Tequipment Airbag Deactivation

The information that you have is for the 2005. That's why you are doubting it.

No, I was doubting it because I've seen mention of such a weight sensing airbag deactivation as far back as 2002. However, here someone reports such a system on a 2006 997S posted 7/29/2005:

I guess technology finally marches on. Hope it's more reliable than my false airbag light

P.S. Apparently, smart airbags are now a requirement for 2006 vehicles:

I guess Porsche announcement regarding the Carrera GT makes sense to me now. In August, Porsche said it would discontinue the Carrera GT because the NHTSA wouldn't grant a waiver on the the lack of smart airbags.
