Yes, my thought is that it's less good in every way than a WRX.

Gotta agree with that! WRX is a blast to drive & very comfortable. If you don't like the look of the new WRX you could buy a older one for nothing & have someone "restomod" it. (seems that flat6innovations is fiddling with these) I got to drive a Mini "S" for a couple days when they debuted, I was really looking forward to driving it but was really underwhelmed. Driving with me & 3 guys in it had to take off up a steep hill & I didn't think we would make it up the hill.
If you didn't know the 2002 WRX has a full frame which allows the frameless door glass which I love. Look for one with the optional !7" BBS wheels.

I think the Countryman is you in that front wing "honches" look like they would readily accept the requisite machine gun installation.
