How old are you?
After reading a previous thread about age, it seems the average 986 forum user is younger than I thought. I just wanted to set this poll up to crunch the numbers. Please participate in the poll.
|
By the way this poll may be weighted unfair because the younger generations are more pron to the internet,so in reality there are more well aged Boxster owners in real life.
|
I think i might be the youngest on here. 17 and i drive a Box :D
|
Hi to all! I'm 27 right now and got my Boxster 3 weeks after my 27th b-day. It's a 1997 with 35k miles on it. It's been 6 months now and so far, its has been trouble free. I joined this forum (along with other Boxster forums) to gain knowledge of the car we love to drive and praise it's faults...and also learn DIY stuff since my car is way out of warranty and no extended warranty company would provide one. I regret to say that I'm not going to pay $200 for an oil change. Not to be labeled as cheapeskate but I just bought a house earlier this year (before I turned 27). BTW, I'm single.

I guess the mid-life crisis is still in tact. 30-45 range seems to be higest so far.

If owning a Boxster, or any Porsche for that matter, is a equated to a mid-life crisis, I would venture to guess that there are a lot of people out there who would love to be having a "crisis"!!
I think I heard it here on this forum once..."it is more of a mid-life celebration!" See, it is all about perspective...isn't it! |

Brucelee or others -
Wonder if these numbers are typical of Boxster sales overall? It's a decent sample size - I would think it would match fairly well. |
"Mid-life crisis? No! Life long obsession!" I read that in one of the forums sometime ago and it's a great response. In fact, for many it is true.
As I see it, no matter how old or young we are, when we climb behind the wheel of a Porsche, we're all the same age. |
if you do a search on this site for "mid life crisis" you'll find a very long thread devoted to it. In a nutshell, I'm 43 have had this comment come from:
a) Older women, or b) Divorced women Call me a cheauvanist pig if you like, but I gotta call 'em like I see 'em. It seems to be a comment born out of ignorance of the person in question (if you knew me you wouldn't say that), a lack of tact (keep your judgements in your head, not on the tip of your tongue), or from someone who has experienced a lot of unresolved hurt and has bitterness (yeah, your ex-husband WAS a complete jerk in my book too, but don't lump us all together in the same ball of dysfunction!). I have never heard this statement from another man. Men always say they wish they had the cash to do it because they've always wanted a Porsche. I've seen men and women alike in the midst of a mid-life crisis and it ain't pretty. I'm far to happy a year after purchase for this to be a mid-life crisis! |
I heard this comment allot also.
I'm 32(pass for 25-27) and was dating some 21 year olds. Every girl over 25 just shook her head and said a Porsche and young girls? "mid-life crisis tisk tisk" |
Whew, sorry, didn't mean to get emotions all stirred up. Just a little observation.
For the record, the Boxster is the wife's and we picked the Boxster because my wife is tall and it's the only convertible we could find (besides the Toyota Solara) that her head didn't hit the top. When she first saw one on the road and said "I like that one" I said "Yeah, right! That's a Porsche! In your dreams!". When I looked at the 2000 MY and saw it was the same price as the new Solara (couldn't find used ones anywhere) I about passed out with excitement. From then on, it's been Heaven on Earth. :D berj: Like you, I hope my "mid-life" isn't here for another 10 years. ;) |
I'm 21 but got the Box when I was 20.

Forget the nay sayers
Im 57 and proud of the fact. I have to acknowledge that I have to thank my wife for suggesting the Porsche in the first place. I was ready to buy another Audi S-4. After 37 yrs of marriage I learn to follow a good thing and her suggestion was 100% better than mine. The mid life crisis thing is way over blown. A phrase like that is used by someone that is envious or mean spirited. I will leave it at that. The great diversity in age group here is a testament to Porsche and how well the car attracts clientele from all age groups. The youngsters here have to be commended of their mature and good taste as well as the others finally achieving their life long dream of ownership of such fine sports car from a marque steep in a tradiion of racing and innovation. As the romans would say Carpe Diem and enjoy it as much as possible for life is too short.

I'm hitting 33 this year and I also think the whole "mid-life crisis" thing is a misnomer. "Crisis" seems to have a negative vibe. I think a better phrase would be "mid-life realization".

I'll be 21 in January

Had to get to over 50 to really enjoy the Boxster. I had a 924 15 years ago....not the same at all!! |
Just passed the big 4....0 had boxsters for the last 4 years and feel like a 20 year old when driving, well like a safe twenty years old!
|
29, but only a boxster owner for a couple months.
|
Hi,
I'm 52. The Mid-Life Crisis is such a cliche'. The thing that bugs me is that as my hair has grayed, and my equator slightly expanded, I drive my Boxster or Esprit and I see the occaisional looks of younger people, usually women, and can just tell they think I'm mid-lifing. They think I'm driving the sporty car to compensate. But, they don't realize I've owned and been driving these type of Cars since I was 18 (one of which I still own) - a 34 year long Mid-Life Crisis, OK, I guess that may deserve a look or two... :) Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
I am 46, but no fair to call this a mid-life crisis, I have owned a Porsche since 35.
I do get alot of "Ohh your in a mid life crisis?" all I can say is KMA, I have wanted these cars since 15? Regards |
Yes indeed. "Midlife crisis" is such a misused phrase. There is no crisis, but I am midlife. No, I wasn't able to raise children and have a 2 seater. If that generates a crisis (becoming an "empty-nester) than call 911 is my response!
I tried the 924 with kids, it was a royal pain in the arse. My wife actually emailed me at work with the following:"Honey, why don't you make VW eat the (POS) Touareg and buy yourself a Porsche like you've always wanted? It would be nice to do it before one of us retired!!" I called the dealership that day and the rest....is history! |
Some college guys sitting outside a house yelled "midlife crisis" as I was driving by about a year ago....for God sakes I'm only 25 now. I guess I'm in my golden years. The stereotype is out there but I think it stems from envy.
|
I was having a mid-life crisis. I am 32. My crisis finally ended after I got my Boxster after wanting one for the past 10 years. I really don't see a Porsche as mid-life crisis cars. Honestly, I usually reserve those opinions for Corvette and 350z drivers :p . I intend on having a few more mid-life crisis as the performance goes up and up throughout the years. This is just my first Porsche and I am not stopping now.

Guys, it's only a midlife crisis when you have a bubbleheaded bleached blonde 18 yearold sitting next to you!

MAY THE P.M.L.C.(Porsche Mid Life Crisis) LIVE ON!!
I'm 68,a retired Mech. Eng. , the son of a Motor Mechanic & have owned a lot of great cars over the last 50 odd years, so I guess my mid life crisis started when I was 18.
My big regret is I waited so long to graduate to a P.M.L.C.. Only bought my '03 Box last month and love it to death. My wife however tells everybody that I also received with the car a free mebership to SOFA (Silly Old Farts Association) . I refuse to be intimidated, I figure your never to old to have fun and whilst I can still get in and out of the damn thing then fun I will have, after all you are a long time dead! I wonder if I qualify as the oldest owner? Cheers |

My whole life has been a midlife crisis. People say "mid life crisis" like it's some kinda bad thing. Like a mental imperfection. Meanwhile we are living life while everyone else goes through the motions conforming to the norm. Safe and secure. And boring. Insatiable is right, you're a long time dead so live hard and fast. In 80 years none of this will matter anyway. So we could stay home and tend to our lawns and gardens or get out on the road to see wottle she do. |

The perfect reply found on another forum some time ago:
Porsche, mid-life crisis? No, life long obsession. |

I've told folks that a midlife crisis can only happen if you reach midlife. I have yet to grow up, so it's a moot point. |
P.m.l.c. ---- Live On !!!!

Age is really only a number, however I'm told if you don't use it, you may well lose it. Incidently my wife (aged 69) has just been chosen to represent Australia in the womens 70's tennis team competing in Florida USA this Oct. and I'm very proud of her especially since it's only 4 years since she had surgery for bowel cancer. Thanks again, Cheers. |

I voted in my wife's age category since it is her car.
I'm building a Factory Five Roadster, for me it is a much better mid-life crisis car. |
Just rolled the clock on 26. As far as the mid life crisis is concerned, it is more like a quarter life bargaining chip. The wife says to me, "Y don't you get it...you deserve it for working so hard on your masters and working...." I figure, man this is awesome how can I say no.
The day I get the car she says to me, "Okay you have your baby.....now where is mine"  |
Bleh...I fully reject any "midlife crisis" talk or stares! Having meager income and other priorities like house payments, kids college education, providing for family health problems, I was finally able to save up enough for a little treat.
If you are in a position to afford the 'nice' things early in life, great. But better late than never. Vroom-vroom ! |
