My first
Not a picture of my actual car but it looked just as much a hooptie as this one. Bought it for $200 and my dad brought me a motor for $50, that was donated by the local FD from a car they cut up with the Jaws of Life.

Wish I had pictures. First car was a parent hand-me-down 68 Olds Cutlass Convertible. Engine went bad after 6 month. I put in a W30 442 race motor literally dragged out of a barn for $150. 400+ HP, 18 yr old teen, drinking age 18 in the late 70's. I possibly could have been the most dangerous thing on the road in NJ after 11PM on a weekend. I don't have to wonder what happen to it, I bought a Telephone pole with it. Fortunately for me it only cost a concussion for a couple of weeks and of course the car. Still like speed but cars are better and my understanding of consequences are better

spent more time underneath it, then in it.

I was on my second motorcycle before ever getting a car. My first car was a 1963 Corvair 2 door coupe. Purchased Spring 1974 for $75.
Air cooled flat six. Ran great. Tough as nails. Go anywhere car. Put about 10,000 miles a year on it. Had it for 3 years.
Total repairs were; 1 set of spark plugs $9, 1 muffler $15, 1 fan bearing $15 and 1 set of 4 new tires $125. Sold it for $200.
Thinking about it, I guess that must have something to with now owning a Boxster.

The first car that I bought was a brand new, off the showroom floor, 1983 Mazda RX-7. I don't have many pictures but this one was taken in Wisconsin shortly after purchase with my Golden Retriever, both long since gone The first car I drove, was a 1968 Firebird(automatic though) that my dad purchased. Loved that car also, amazing I am still alive after the adventures in that car.
Edit:
From the January 1983 Car and Driver Magazine:
"The Mazda RX-7 is the car you buy when you have all the right instincts and are a person of good taste and character but you can’t afford a Porsche."
That would be me I guess I was destined to have a Porsche someday!

1985 Chrysler Laser 2.2L turbo, 146 hp, 0-60 in 8.1 sec. The 0-50 mph times were faster then the Camero Z28, Transam, and Toyota supra of the same year. In the slalom it beat the Mustang GT and the Mazda RX7. I wish I had hung onto this one. I bought it in 1998 with 23,000 original miles for $4500.

If we were doing the 2nd car thread I would be right there with you. My second after dumping my $200 VW project for $1400, was a '68 Firebird 400(non RAM AIR), that I picked up with a new paint job for $1800. It was also my first introduction to HORSEPOWER and street racing. Not a good combo for a high school kid

Your comment on HP and high school is why I was offered the 1.1 kadette over the V8 three speed (I think it was three) Lemans, that was also traded on a Fiat. My father said "if you die in that Lemans I'd never hear the end of it". Apparently dying in the Kadette would have been an easier sell.

I see an Opel trend in this thread. Is Opel the gateway car to the Porsche?
My first car was a 73 Manta. Bad body and really ripped up interior but it cost me $300. Best deal I ever made in a car. Over 3-4 years I drove it all over the US when I used to race bicycles, the odometer was broken, but I estimate I put close to 75k miles on it with the only expense being a set of tires, a clutch and a driveshaft u-joint.
And the car was fast. My little brother got arrested for going over 100 mph in it.
Yikes! Sorry. How do I resize the image?

My first was a red Gremlin. 5hp single stroke if I recall. I was however 8 years old and its debatable about it being my coin. I do remember something about an allowance swap!
I drove this thing hard until I could no longer fit. It went topless within the first year and we had to weld the frame back together at least three times as the fun was had in the fields with lots of holes and rocks.
(this is not my photo btw, although there might be one buried in my parents photo albums back east)

1967 Pontiac Laurentian, 2-door sedan, in provincial white. 250 c.i. straight 6, o-glide tranny. Bought it in 1974 for $200. Wish I had a pic. Had a couple of significant firsts in that car.
