You may have a shot master or slave unit. Mine was horribly stiff and when I replaced the entire clutch and both cylinders I darn near put my foot through the floor board. I thought I had blown something till I realized that a hydraulic clutch is going to feel incredible smooth. If you have a stiff clutch, something is going on.

Define "stiff"

It depends on what you consider "stiff". I haven't owned a car with an automatic tranny since 1985; every clutch was different.

The last two were a 93 Accord coupe and a 99 Acura CL. The CL has a clutch that has almost no, and I mean almost NO, resistance at all. I bought my Boxster in May, and it requires supreme effort on the clutch compared to the CL, which I'm keeping for my Winter car. It's actually difficult switching between the two. Think scooping through really, really hard ice cream and soft serve.

I'd suggest finding a similar Boxster for sale or a friendly fellow owner and comparing clutch feel. That will give you an idea of whether your car has a problem.
