Hi Steve, you'll be spared, trust me. Real purgatory is living at the end of a 1/2 mile private dirt/gravel road like we do. We're having our road resurfaced in compacted lime crusher this month so conditions should improve greatly. We never drive more than 5 mph on our road to minimize paint damage and dust.

Happy to report that the cars and bikes are handling the conditions much better than my wife and me. We'll be glad to 'make our escape' from the dust when we finish our road

After shearing off one of the mounting bolts for my updated roof transmissions yesterday, I was hoping for a better day today. While fishing the missing door mirror screws inside the door panels with my trusty telescopic magnet (man has that thing paid for itself many times over), I discovered the connector for the inside door handle was not reconnected when the PO had the passenger window regulator replaced. Plugged it back in, and et voila, power locks are working properly again!!

Not really today, but yesterday, I replaced the front mount bushing, water pump, installed low temp thermostat, coolant, and the 3 idler bearings, car has 50,000 miles, water pump did not fail, but it was the original, I thought with it being 18 years old it was time. I didn't realize how noisy the pump was, the engine is so much quieter. The mount was starting to fail as well, there were cracks in the rubber

Visited a junk yard where there was a rare 99 Boxster who had seen much better days. Car had been stripped pretty good, but got my door pocket lids in great shape for the grand ol' price of $8.99 for both, fuse panel map and misc bulbs... Name:  IMG_3273.JPG

Well done. Great to know these are all good for another 50K. Did you do the belt also?

I wet sanded the spots I had filled with touch-up paint. I know some of you wanted to see the process.

First I went over the car and marked all the spots with blue masking tape while I let the 2000 grit paper soak in water. I also had a water spray bottle to keep the paper and area wet.

I sanded carefully and tried to keep the area wet. I also wiped with a microfiber cloth. The result was a matte area with a barely visible spot of touch-up paint that was completely smooth.

The next step is to wash the car and then rub and polish it before applying a layer of wax.

In some places the touch-up paint came completely off, which lead to the chip being visible again. This happened in four or five places out of the 40-50 I was working on.
Considering this was my first time trying something like this, I think the result was acceptable. The remaining chips will be taken care of eventually. But this is good enough for now.

The touched-up chip is marked and ready for sanding.


Apply a liberal amount of water.


Start sanding carefully.


Already quite flat.


Water wiped off and it feels smooth. You can barely see it.


Just some areas that I went over. Hopefully it will be shiny when I'm done.

Thursday I drove my '03 S to work, a 60 mile drive. On the way home the light in the temperature gauge started blinking, indicating low coolant. Got home and added about 3 quarts of distilled water. Sunday it will get flat bedded to my indie Porsche specialist. I already had an appointment for an oil change, brake fluid flush and HPDE tech inspection, so the cooling system will get looked at too. I had my water pump replaced 4-1/2 years and 24,000 miles ago, I'll be disappointed if that's what went. Along with the oil change and brake fluid flush, I'm adding a Mantis sump, stainless steel flexible brake lines and an underdrive pulley.

Today I pulled the front bumper and wheel well liners, cleaned out my radiators and ducts, and replaced my low note horn which had gone. Also put my 18 inch wheels on to get ready for my upcoming HPDE. Tomorrow the Brey Krause rollbar extension goes on. After that and the service on Monday, I hope to just wash it and drive it!

Put it into DD service this week 120 km round trip to work. Inspected the rear brakes,washed the car, cleaned the exhaust tips, touched up a paint chip, booked a coolant change and cv boot replacement service, ran errands and picked up 5 feet of square tubing for a garage project

Replaced the left rear trailing arm. No rattles any more. Now I can hear the squeaks!

Removed the front bumper and cleaned the radiators. It didn't look that dirty from the outside but it certainly was!
