That's a great idea and better strength than most of the automotive scrap I have around. The sump plate is replaced now and the car is good except for cracked plastic belly panels.

Very much same principle when getting a flat tire... you can easily drive on a "flat" to the next exit/pull-off/side street etc. w/o concern (or of hurting rim). Once you stop though ... :(

Hey it's just like life in general so keep driving!

Good luck :)

I've got to ask, what is dishwasher armor plating?

Bald Eagle 04-02-2022 07:37 AM

This morning I had the extreme pleasure of rescuing my 2000S from winter hibernation! I smiled at it when I took off the cover.
It smiled at me after I connected the battery.
We both made YaHOO! noises as I turned the key and it started right up after its five month rest.
Then we took the long way home, showly until it was fully warmed then a couple rips through the gears.
Ahhh Spring!!!

I washed it. Soon I'll get it back on the road.

Successfully solved and replaced the windows not going down (driver and passenger) when you open-the-door/double beep/red lock light staying on issue.

The driver door lock actuator was replaced with 8N1837015C from UROparts via amazon. Was pretty much plug and play, just had to transfer over the actual lock cable. I had previously purchased the passenger door lock actuator when someone was parting out a Boxster and luckily it worked. It wasn't exactly plug and play, as the OEM actuator has some plastic molding covering the door lock cable - was able to remove the cladding with a Dremel and then transfer over the lock cable.

Overall, probably took a couple of hours per door - the passenger door would've been done quicker, but only after I buttoned everything up did I realize I didn't connect the outside handle back to the lock... so had to take it all apart again.

Definitely all the great info in this forum and the 101 Boxster book helped to make it a great Sunday project.

Sunday drive to Park City

Drove to Park City for a Formula 1 dinner party. It was a wonderful drive up Parley's Canyon. Top down, windows up, bit chilly, but the car purred like a Boxster should at seven thousand feet. My host served melt in your mouth fall apart brisket, baked potatoes, baked beans, served with a really nice Cabernet. We ate our full and watched the Australian GP all choosing there favorite driver to win. Heading home fat and happy i'm reaching the top of canyon. Its dark and now very cold so I turn the heater on and I hear a whining sound come from the engine bay. Not sure what it could be but soon I hear a pop. Everything goes out no power steering, no heater, lights go dim and the the engine temp goes nuts to the red. Yup! serpentine belt!:mad:

Started without a key! Also, pulled the clutch booster spring out, bypassed the clutch sensor which pulls timing during shifts, and fit a new parking brake handle.

I started a build thread to document all the ridiculous stuff I'm doing to what was a perfectly working beautiful condition boxster lol. I'm calling it the 986-R...

  • Changed the air filter
  • Changed the cabin filter
  • Cleaned the throttle body
  • Cleaned the Mass Airflow Sensor
  • Replaced spark plugs
  • Replaced all the o-rings on the spark plug tubes
  • Installed a 987 shifter in the 986

I also tested out RennStands by Safe Jack. Someone in the neighborhood was selling them cheap so I picked them up. I'm not convinced it was a good purchase (as I usually only jack up one side at a time and the feet on these are hard to get level doing so).

Oil/filter change. Installed a small powered subwoofer behind the passenger seat. Fills in the low's nicely without being overbearing.

Getting bored again Jbauer?:D I love that blue! Can’t wait to see the end result

Finally getting the interior back together. Here's the list -

Ultrashort raised shifter (I'm gonna take it up higher still but it's a good start)
Headunit delete with Bluetooth amp
Wire gauge face and red backlighting
Obc switches (small paddle toggles, will mount on either side of the kill switch)
Push start - not easy to do but damn I love it! This is a real push button start system too, no "stick the key in and then push the button"
Gauge install (afr controller, oil psi for engine and transmission cooler)
Master kill switch

I still need to paint the center console plate (black to match) and finish the lower console - fab a blank plate to cover the opening and hold the HVAC controller and a set of warning lights, along with the new ebrake handle.

Will post more pics soon after the move.
