Worried a little, does that count?

Wife took the car to work and I noticed a penny sized drop of oil on the passenger side. Its pretty clean/clear so I assume its the fresh Castrol. Had the car about 2 months and this is the first it has leaked. We are driving it a lot and I know my wife talks about how great it sounds at 6000rpm!

At some point I am going to get it on jacks and have a look see.

Finally got around to replacing the passenger side door latch assy, been having window drop problems for about 4-5 months and isolated it to a bad circuit on the PCB.

Replacement came from a 911, should I be going faster now??? Added 5 hp?

Lots of spirited driving this weekend. These cars are just so much fun aren't they?

Had some bogging and loss of power at higher revs, went away after taking it easy for a bit. Few mins later CEL came one. Used my durametric to pull a raft of codes. Research on this here forum pointing me to look for a vacuum leak. So this evening I tried to find one. No luck so far. Cleared the codes and was left with a persistent P1117.

Recent (less than 4000 kms) coils and plugs and fuel pump.

Oh well. Something new to dig into. Thanks all in advance for your support!

Purchased the OBDator Mini-OBD2 ELM327 dongle ($14) and it came in today. That combined with the free Torque App and I was quickly able to see my coolant temps.

Note: These OBD dongles are ON at all times. In hindsight, I should have found a model with a power switch (saw one with a button, low profile as well, for $20 on Amazon). They don't drain much power but I hate the idea of installing a parasite.

EDIT: Gonna buy this for $8, its an OBD extension with a switch. I might just ziptie it to that tray thing under the steering column.

The standard 986 gauge is pretty accurate on the way up to 180F. Once past 180F its hard to tell whats going on.

Using Torque:
In general with normal country cruising it would hold at 194F. Putting through a neighborhood saw it hit 205F and it quickly came back down to 194F once I was moving at 55.

There is a lot more capability but I am not really sure if I *need* to see anything else. I did put the MPG display up to see that information.

To Do:
- Buy the Torque Pro App for $5, might as well
- Figure our how to display Torque on the Alpine using Android Auto, it can be done!
- Buy the 160F Thermostat, plan to install it down the road

Spent a fantastic weeken at Porsche Festival Alastaro Finland with my son.
Did a day of driving at the track (need new tires...:D), took part to Porsche Slalom race, my son drove some iRacing and we enjoyed fantastic weekend as a spectator for various Porsche racing series as well as Concours d'Elegance event. Plenty of very good looking Porsches from all age groups to see and nice people to chat with

Swapped out the passenger front tuning fork LCA. It is not torqued in place, but I’ll torque both sides at the same time. It went quickly, at least after I found that security lug nut socket. I should have bought four replacement lug nuts when Woody was selling parts. I can never remember where that socket is when needed.

I've been waiting for the two radiator fans to arrive and, in the meantime, have been detailing my fender/wheel wells. I do not own a pressure washer.

A few years ago I read about a "detailer's trick" for wheel wells: Spray the plastic liner with tire foam. I did. Looked great! For a few days. Well... with the wheels off it looked like **************** in there (the wells). That tire foam builds up and it is a pain in the ass to remove. I've decided no more wheel well product... just a wash and rinse.

Anyhow... I've one well left to clean. The others are at 90% clean. Lots of wiping... paintbrushes for the corners and edges... soap and degreaser. I even threw a little paint on the bottom of the struts.

Wife returns home from work last night:

Her: "Why are the rear wheels off the car?"

Me: "C'mon out and I'll show you"

Me, showing her the remaining dirty well: "What do you see?"

Her: "What am I supposed to see?"

Me: "Take a look. What do you see here (motioning to dirty ****************ty area) and here (more dirty ****************ty area)?"

Her: "Honey, I don't see anything. What am I supposed to be seeing?"

Me, becoming alarmed at her blindness): "Do you see all that nasty ****************? That white crap?"

Her: "OK. That means nothing to me".

Me, showing her the glistening silver and shiny black in the three clean wells: "Look at that (showing her the clean) and now look at that (showing her the ****************show well)".

Her: "That's what you've been working on? No one is going bend down to see that".

While in the wells I did note a few things that are going to require attention. The boot to the inside rear passenger axle is split. Two pieces. I'm venturing to guess (I know) that soon I'll be needing a couple of axles.

Cheers!

For me at least ;) Crazy money to spend on a 986 but I can’t wait to break it in and turn it loose. Definitely should be near one of a kind.
