What did you do with/to your Boxster today?
 

Not a lot, replaced the wheel caps. Stock caps were in much worse shape than
I thought. New caps, colored badges instead of the etched version, look so much
better and aren't missing half or more of the retaining legs.

In the next week or so, rear shelf gets speakers and Window regulators on
both sides will be replaced. Have the parts, just not the time yet :)

Finished off my mono-tone look by doing my side mirror brackets. Rear bumperettes, mud guards already done.

Two new Goodyear Eagle Sport front tire and a wheel alignment. Drives straight again!

Heater flaps taped up for good better heat.

Are those the ones that are $250ish a set or replicas? Only thing stopping me from replacing my beat to heck ones is the outrageous price.

- LN Engineering spin on oil filter adapter
- Refinished headlights with SprayMax 2 stage catalyst headlight system
- Set of 4 genuine Porsche seal gray wheel center caps
- Whole car PDR by a great PDR guy in central NY
- Sun visor air bag warning blackouts

Planned for 2018 (all parts received except for driver seat cushion):
- GBox 2nd gear detent (preventive, not having any popout problems)
- Porsche Genuine AOS
- Driver seat bottom cushion replacement (driver seat heater not working, only non-op on entire car)
- Car Chemistry exhaust baffle inserts (in an attempt to tame the drone in my Borla exhaust that I otherwise love)

Plenty of time to finish everything before the spring / summer 2018 driving season starts!

Installed speakers and grills into my rear deck shelf, wired them up and reinstalled the
rear deck. Monday I should have the last 2 bits, harness to the radio and the mounting
retainer clip for the harness. Why the cable doesn't come with it is beyond me.

Those are the real deal... Got them from a wrecker for $75 for all 4.

Finished installation of new Polk Audio 5-channel amp. Dash and rear shelf speakers were replaced last year (not much left of the paper cone speakers) , and the 5.25" subs in the doors looked like new - maybe because they were never called upon to make any sound. They have come alive with the new amp, as have the dash and rears. Also moved the temperature control unit to the bottom opening, and ordered the retrofit dash cup holder kit for that hole.

I planned on changing the water pump this morning, but upon removal of the plastic covers and inspection I found the two large hoses and two smaller hose clamps had become loose. They were not the OEM Spring clamps, PO must have changed them to the screw drive type when the water pump was last replaced. Oh well, I tightened them down and proceeded to change the fuel filter while I was done there and cleaned up all the residual coolant.

After cleaning up I cruised around for about hour, man that was fun. I had not driven her around for about 3 weeks due to the coolant leak. So much fun driving the boxster.:)

Installed a Rennline throttle pedal with extensions and riser. I just have to wait a couple of months to try it out. I also commissioned my nerd friend to build my an Arduino convertible top "one touch" box. He had some improvement ideas on the design.

Put the top down and went for a drive....55 and sunny.
This car is so much fun....I can't believe it is now 18 years old. I sure doesn't feel like it.

How hard/easy was that? Do you have to drill through the existing throttle pedal? I have the exact same thing waiting to go into my car, I'm going to wait until it is a lot warmer.

Not hard at all. You have to drill 3 pilot holes and then 3 - 7/16" clearance holes in the existing pedal. It took about 20 minutes.

Bought another.
Salvage auction/flood car. Really mixed emotion on this one and I almost backed out of the deal. In the end, my curiosity and commitment to the deal pushed me to follow through. I trust Woody and he said to stay away (too badly flooded), but by the time I got his message, the seller accepted my bid.
After fees and shipping costs, I could have found a nice 97-99 Boxster for the same. Why did I do it? It's not about owning a nice car. It's about exploration, curiosity, and working with mechanical things. Just maybe this car will 'live' again, but not until after I pull it all apart.

The insurance companies have been getting sneaky lately with the really flooded cars. I've seen a few go away covered in mud and come back clean. I've bought two that were as flooded as that one. 90% of the interior and 100% of anything electrical is garbage. You're in for some excitement if you throw a good battery in it. Stuff that shouldn't come on does and stuff that should doesn't. On a good note, the manual transmissions seem to be water tight and the engine can be saved if you take it apart and clean it. I have a guy who's been buying my flooded motors. He's been cleaning them up and throwing them in race cars with great success. The suspension, brakes and cooling system should be okay too.

What year is that car? 02, 03? its got an S bumper but I can't tell for sure. Best of luck!
