On Saturday, I took time to fix a slight squeak from the rear passenger side when coming to a stop. Did some reading on it and general consensus is that it's an accumulation of brake dust.

Removed the wheel and rear pads. Man those are in there tight. I was able to use a clamp to move them away from the rotor and then read a tip in Wayne's book on using a screwdriver for leverage to pop them out. The rears probably have 50%left and also had antisqueal shims installed. The pads were labelled brembo.

I cleaned the vent holes in the rotor with brake cleaner and compressed air (wore an n95 mask) cleaned the brake dust out of the callipers. Put new antisqueal paste on the back of the pads and shims and greased the ear where the pads rest in the callipers. Lubed the surface of the clip that hold the pads in as well as the retaining pin.

So nice to work on a car that hasn't seen corrosion from our cdn winters.

Decided to remove all 4 wheels and give the insides a clean as well to remove the brake dust on the rims.

Did a quick wipe down of the paint with meguair's quick detailer. And put tire dressing on all 4 tires.

Shiny, non squeaky ride for the rest of the weekend.

Installed GPS double DIN head unit. Makes it feel like a modern car.

Been a busy month since I bought her.

Started out with all the regular maintenance items, tires, oil/filter change, air and cabin filter, serpentine belt and spark plugs. Then came the little fixes, LCD screen for climate control, horn fix, visor mirror replacements, paintless dent removal, AOS.

Then the fun stuff, desnorkel, polish lettering off lights and this radio.

Then the not so fun stuff when a convertible top connector snapped and dented the clamshell. That was parts and more paintless dent removal. :-(

In between lots of driving. Put about 1,500 miles on it so far.

Love that head unit. Was it easy to move the aircon/heater unit?

Does your car have a factory amp fitted?
I hear it's not easy to change the head unit if it has an amp fitted from the factory and that you'd have to bypass the amp first.

Walked by mine in the garage after returning from work, and admired the cover...

Mine has the older electronic connection amp which is just plug and play vs. the optical connection amp.

It was relatively simple but a lot of sweat to cut the console and thread the wires.

Now I've gone and bought the rear speakers so I have to figure out what to do with what is probably a 4 channel amp when I need a 6 channel. Might power them from the head unit or replace the amp with a 6 channel.

Yeah I've got the MOST system so not as easy for me to change mine. I don't have the Bose upgrade so maybe I can change the headunit and just use a wiring adapter.

Can anyone confirm this?

Road trip down and back up the Skyline Drive. 700 miles round trip
This time it was wife and me. I've done it several times solo
Finally got to see some Bears.
Driving with the wife forces me to slow down and see the world around me "your going to Fast - Slow Down"

In a convertible - Day before we just missed Mom and 2 cubs
I started to think - What if I came up to cubs crossing in front of me, then look behind and see Mommy walking up?

What did you do with/to your Boxster today?

Cool, Kk!

I hear you about being with your wife. We just drove a 200 section of the BRP, and she kept telling me to slow down so she could see and hear the wildlife' and see the scenery. I'm like "you do realize we are in a Porsche on the BRP, right?" But that 200 miles took us 8 hours.....happy wife, happy life!

New Steering Wheel & Top Speed Exhaust

Had a new steering wheel installed, along with top speed exhaust and cat delete pipes.

These two mods make it feel like a new car.

I bought it from an eBay seller from Latvia. Quality is very nice. I just checked and he does not have the exact wheel listed today....but I am sure he will have more.

FYI..."Buy It Now" was $799 and I offered him $699 and he accepted it.

On a MOST setup you will need a new headunit and amplifier and new wiring for all. I think it is possible to just use a new HU and wire your speakers to the HU but it will need to be wired. I bought the HU/Amp/Wiring as a kit and it was almost PnP. It came from CAI-Innovations and was expensive but it just went in and worked. Plenty of DIYs for doing it without the expensive harnesses on the web.

Changed Engine Mount and Made Custom Support Stops

Smoother upshifting especially between first and second and smoother downshifting especially from 3rd to 2nd.

Interesting that the clapping sounds during shifts actually got louder with the new engine mount.

Suggest following Pedro's DIY instructions as you definitely want to remove the four bolts holding the yoke before removing the engine mount bolts and installing the new mount.

Had to make some custom support stops because Pelican sent me the older version of stops for the older version engine mount.

Having a four post ramp lift with an additional motor/transmission jack really made the job less difficult.

Highly suggest using/purchasing ratcheting wrenches for the tight spaces where socket wrenches won't fit.

More Expensive Bits of German Plastic

Swapped out the ashtray for the cubby. Swapped out the euro for the US spec lighter so my GPS plugged quits falling out. And swapped out the radiator cap. No more slimy coolant residue on the bottom of the trunk lid.

I purchased my 2001 "S" on Sunday June 5th and when it was delivered I changed out the serpentine belt, did an oil change, changed the fuel filter, cabin air filter, drained and refilled the 6 speed transaxle, replaced the center console with a great used piece. Installed 4 new oxygen sensors and a few days ago, had a LN Engineering IMSB kit installed, new pressure plate, disk, throw out bearing, front motor mount along with a new coolant tank and cap. I'm waiting for spark plugs and spark plug tubes to arrived and while I have my car on my lift I'm going to have the rotors turned and replace the brake fluid. Today I removed the MAF and used some of that MAF spray cleaner then re-installed that piece. I had no maintenance records so basically I'm doing a 60,000 service and know that it's done.
