Sun visor hinge not moving smoothly

Has anyone run into this problem where the hinge of the visor is not allowing the visor to move up and down smoothly? It is not the common "visor mirror" problem but the main hinge of the visor.

On hot days, mine seems to be very difficult to move up and down smoothly in some instances, and in other instances, it seems it does not keep the visor in the up position, allowing the visor to drop a couple inches from the up position. It's a bit annoying since I use a sun shade to keep the car's interior cooler and use the visors to hold up the shade, and this problem appears to happen on exactly the days when I need the sun shade the most! (When the visor cools down, the problem is not as pronounced, though it feels something is wrong inside.)

I'm looking into getting a replacement part to fix it. However, it looks like I can get different parts. I can replace the entire sun visor assembly (expensive) or just the hinge (cheaper). Does anyone know what's wrong with the visor, and which part I might be able to get to fix the problem?
