Ernest Borgnine was Chuck Norris before there was a Chuck Norris.

I liked him, he was one of those actors you felt you knew more than just through acting. Any guy who can go on a cartoon at the age he did and make a few Simpson jokes is someone who mastered never letting the inner child die, speaking of which I have a Spyder to wash...

Always liked this guy...hell, I practically grew up with McHale's Navy on the tube. A Class Act, somebody I'd have love to have had a beer (or several) with---I suspect he was a wonderful story-teller. Farewell, Ernie---good show, big guy!

Ok.. I seriously do not want you guys to think I'm full of ********************. True story: In about '78, '79 somewhere in there, I flew out to LA for a summer visit to my cousins, aunts, uncles etc. On my flight back, keeping in mind I was only 12-13 yrs old or so and didn't really know who Ernest Borgnine was, there was a lot of activity towards the front of the plane. Then when I got off the plane in Kansas City there were a lot of people pointing and gawking. My dad and my friend who picked me up at the airport said "That was Ernest Borgnine that was sitting in front of you on the plane"!!! I kind of knew who he was from 'The poseidon adventure' movie, but that's about it. My brush with greatness......

Totally believable story about Ernie A family member who briefly was an air marshal told me he sat next to Brian Dennehy. He didn't talk to him as he was concentrating on whether anyone needed their hair to be parted (now he's even more lethal with firearms). Anyhow, he told me all he could think of was "first blood" when he sat down.
