GT3 Seat Discussion

I've read a couple posts on the cheap after market GT3 seats and they seemed to be a surprisingly good deal. I know I want to replace my seats with something with more bucket but I'm not totally sold on the GT3 seat look, but then again I'm cheap and cheap always wins. If I had my druthers I'd go for more of a retro look and a little less aggressive. Anyways those of you that have the seats in your car how have they held up? Are they OK on long trips, I'm in my 20's so I'm guessing I can stomach it. Also I'd like to find gray seats but haven'y had any luck finding them, any ideas? Finally and just to make sure I've completely destroyed my resale value I'd like to cover the center of them in the a fabric similar to the one below, kind of a retro german throw back that I'm sure I'll be the only one to enjoy. The cushions just Velcro off right? I know they do on some of them.

By the way, how do I put a picture in my signature?

If you like old school don't know about cost, the sport bucket, harder leather recaro seats they used to put in the 944 were pretty sweet. I would think the seats you pictured would lack support and in a car as capable as a 986 you would slide around a lot.

I'm not going to judge...

So, IF I was going to do this as cheaply as possible, I'd start with a pair of these eBay seats and then have a local upholstery shop re-cover them in grey and add the plaid inserts.

Total: $490 for the pair of seats + ~$200 ea upholstery = ~$900 for a very custom look.

don't forget the $$$ for sliders (if you don't re-use your existing sliders) and side mounts. Here's my little "what to buy" guide
http://986forum.com/forums/diy-project-guides/34516-installing-gt3-seats-overview-options-hardware-needed.html

To answer the initial question:
I have knck-off GT3 seats in my car all summer and find them actually pretty comfortable
The fact that the seat cushions are attached (and can be also opened) via Velcro also allowed me to fabricate my own lumbar support (out of a piece of foam padding) and to install seat heating (from a cheap eBay kit)

I love the idea of recovering them. What ideas do you guys have besides plaid if I were to recover them?

I have been taking the Spyder to a weekly car show with some killer stuff, if you guys want I can post some pics next week if it doesn't rain. Point being this one guy has a diagonal diamond pattern sewn into the recover job was was as awesome as any I'd seen.

And be sure to keep the original seats to include with the car when you sell it. The next owner will greatly appreciate the option to go back to the stock seats if desired.
