age

I bought my 2000 base three years ago.I will be 65 this year and going on 30.I bicycle 5,000 miles a year and Boxster the rest of the time.

Topless 05-31-2012 02:46 PM

56yrs old. I sold off a part of my business in 2005 and came away with more cash than I expected. The Boxster was a small gift to me for 20 years of faithful service in my former dealership. A good gift.

Turning 40 in October. I guess only the teenagers can get the "alaska" silver color; mine is just arctic silver. :)

bmcuscgr94 05-31-2012 05:39 PM

56 feel older/younger depending upon how screwed up work is

Neekk1 05-31-2012 07:17 PM

I am 32 now and have owned my 2001 986 for three years now.

southernstar 06-01-2012 04:32 AM

57 and bought my 2000 as a summer toy two months ago. Third Porsche, but first one in 20 years (something to do with a divorce and rasing children). Two out of three (children, not wives!) were out of the house and the youngest was just finishing college, so I treated myself. Of course, now one is moving back home and the other is returning to school in the fall! No worries, the car stays!

Another interesting question might be: what are the relative ages of our spouses/significant others? I mean, I'm pretty confident (and the posts seem to confirm) that most of the older owners feel younger than their physical years. We also obviously appreciate a tight and curvaceous body.....

Cheers!

Brad

Bought the car at 29, now 30.

STATISTICS (UPDATE #2):

Youngest: 20 yrs old
Oldest: 72 yrs old
Average: 44 yrs old (decreased by 0.2 from previous update)

By age group:
0-20: 3
21-29: 9
30-39: 8
40-49: 12
50-59: 21
60-69: 5
70-79: 1

southernstar 06-01-2012 11:59 AM

Yes, but the mode is 50-59 with over a third of all respondants (35.6% approx.) between those ages. Furthermore, in total about 56 % are between 40 and 59, so it seems to be largely a middle-aged possession. Middle-age crazies????????

I'll chime in here, too. I'm 40, and have owned my 99 base since last August. As far as the stats go, I have a bit to contribute (I'm a statistician by profession):

http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/dist1338585968.jpg

Summary Statistics

Mean 44.397059
Std Dev 13.141185
Std Err Mean 1.5936027
Upper 95% Mean 47.577903
Lower 95% Mean 41.216214
N 68
Median 44.5
Mode 44

It looks like we're a fairly normally distributed bunch, except for you guys in your 20's... but hey, I'm not sure ANYONE in their 20's is quite normal. ;)

Cheers,
Jason

Oops, my dyslexia sometimes gets the better of me. I could have sworn I wrote arctic silver. Or maybe I subconsciously related the word arctic with alaska. I will blame Sara Pailin and leave it at that.

Boxster_S_girl 06-01-2012 10:48 PM

Aw! I want to participate! But a lady never reveals her age!

Anyway... I was 28 when I bought my Boxster 4 years ago. :)

I'm surprised by early 20s peeps here! I would've loved to own a Porsche back then. Wow! Back when I was your age, I owned a 95 Civic and a 96 integra and selling both probably would've gotten me a pretty messy SC and A LOT more in maintenance costs! My how times have changed!

Dave928 06-03-2012 09:43 PM

45 now, had the S for 3 years.

34 when i got my 928 S4.

Re:.. Targa...

If you mean watching... then yes.....but if you mean racing...lol...No..... I think the Targa is not for me... not yet anyways...lol... this is my First Boxster... and although I know the roads and the actual Targa Circuit up here very well... I'm pretty sure it would end up badly for the car... ( someone put and Enso F-Car ) in the drink last year up here... and lot's of bottomed out cars every year... all love it though. I've had a few RX'7s ( 81 & 84 Targa ) over the years...and one year I was tempted to look into it... but chickened out...lol... In a perfect world.. I will get my current 986 to where I want it.... then i will buy another P-Car... maybe a 911, and give it a go...lol... Mine Boxster is in getting a full detail job done on it right now.... then it's off to the mechanic to get the suspension looked at, and a newly developed Idling issue looked into : (

It's funny but............

In truth, my salary in the eighties and nineties was more than double what it was from 2008 forward. Not only that, my former occupation is nearly extinct in 2012. Those left doing it make about the same I did but need to cover three states to accomplish it as opposed to half of one state, fifty three never looked better, except maybe over the hood of my Spyder.

JAAY 11-24-2012 03:50 AM

23 for the past 10 years. I've had mine for the past 8. :)
