The audio systems of these cars should not be a criteria for purchase. Mostly because they generally suck.

My car, an 06 S, has the factory premium sound system, with Bose amp + speakers but not the PCM (pcm gets you the connectivity features). The sound is slightly worse than the AM radio in the Ford Grenada my folks had when I was a kid. If you're an audiophile, or desire all the gadgets and doo-dads, plan on having the head unit replaced with a aftermarket system.

On the other hand, I find myself driving without the radio on and just listening to the motor. It really is THAT good.

I definately have my days where the radio stays off and I just listed to the car. He's right, it's seriously that good, especially with the top down.

I think the "sound system+" in my '06 is pretty good. Much better than the 986 systems. I would think the "top-of-the-line" Bose with rear speakers would be better yet.

I love the audio in my 986. Its best when the radio is OFF and the top is down.
