Alarm Behaviour - Locking with key

Both of my keys electronic internal components have gone bust (I have the 3 button key. One, it is literally eating batteries in a matter of a few hours while the other blinks slowly as if it lost pairing with the car, so I can't use them anymore and instead lock the car with the key in the door lock.

This evening the car was locked and I needed to remove the front tire as i stepped on some glass and wanted to have a look to see if there's any damage, and after I jacked the car, the alarm still did not sound. I remember that in the past when i jacked the car with the car locked (using the central lock button) the alarm had sounded.

I also noticed that the little RED led on the dash blinks the same it used to when it was locked with the button. Can anyone confirm whether locking/unlocking the car from the door lock activates the alarm? Mine is a UK model, just in case it is different from US. CHeers.

alarm arms automatically after you lock the car...to test leave your center console open and the alarm horn should beep once

I can confirm that the alarm works with key only on a '99. My transmitter has never worked but the alarm has gone of several times in the ten months since I bought it.

However, trying the door handle does not set it off and I thought I read somewhere that it should.
