CROSS Exhaust arrived

CROSS (aka JIC Magic) exhaust for the 986 Boxster. Made in Japan. Only the tips are titanium. The body is stainless. Not sure I like the bluish tip.

I don't get the tip design, looks like my old Kawasaki right where the pipes entered the connectors to the head. the overheating made the same effect as the tip, I guess that's the point of emulating the effect, cross muffler = muy caliente'

You should be able to polish the tips to remove the bluing

The first one just appeared on YT a few days ago and it sounds like a stock setup with just the exhaust. The last 2 are on 987's and it looks like there's a lot more going on that just the exhaust. JIC is better known for their suspension products but they do sell a lot of exhausts for the JDM market. CROSS is their brand for European cars which I don't think they sell a lot of.

I only paid a little more than what an NHP muffler retails for and hundreds less than a Fabspeed exhaust. JIC-Magic USA was selling two on Ebay for 1/2 off retail. They bought some from Japan some time ago when exchange rates were better and they were getting rid of their inventory. I asked for a sound video and they referred me to a Porsche sales manager who bought one of the exhausts. That person said he liked the quality and the sound of the exhaust, not too quiet and not too loud (I know this is subjective). He watched the two RB Tech videos and said his exhaust sounded a little deeper.

Anyway, I've had my Boxster for 9 months now and really haven't done much to it. I have a small budget for mods and have been deciding whether I should spend it on performance or appearance. The car already has an ECU tune and an EVO intake so I decided an exhaust would be a good complement and make the car more exciting to drive. The previous owner had a GHL exhaust on it but it was too noisy so I told him to put the stock exhaust back. I only drive the car on weekends and am trying to get more excitement during my drives. There's really not a lot of twisty roads around Houston that take advantage of the Boxster's capabilities. I hope I made a good decision with this exhaust.

A nice mod to compliment your new exhaust would be to delete the secondary cats . The result will yield a significant reduction in weight, better exhaust flow and a nice improvement in sound as well .

They probably blue the tips from factory b/c they will turn that color shortly.

Thus avoiding "customer service issues" or bad product reviews down the road.

Not saying it's a bad product at all as I truly have no idea... just discussing perception and/or reasoning for the burn in out of the box.

I agree. Actually, I thought about this first but was afraid of the dreaded Cat CEL.

Thanks, I read in another forum that some Autosol metal polish will do the trick.

Removal of the secondary cats will not impact OBD II compliance . Nor, will it result in a CEL .

There's no way the exhaust after a muffler gets hot enough to blue the steel ( or Ti.). More likely, the bluing is from heating the tubing so the tip can be rolled during manufacturing.

The only thing I worry about would be the visual, and not the "sniffer" portion of the smog test here in "too late to fix" Cali.

Unless the tester is an expert on boxsters, seeing the pre-cats on the headers should satisfy the visual inspection.

I installed the exhaust yesterday. I decided to change the oil as well. Took me half a day cuz I had to learn how to remove the rear bumper and removing the old exhaust took some time. The two bolts that connect the top of the exhaust to the back of the transmission were hard to reach. The new exhaust fitted perfectly.

Yes, I was wondering the same. You should install some Fabspeed by-pass pipes to take advantage of that new muffler.

Also, I am in the process of retrieving my Turbowerx headers off my '01 S I surrendered back in April. I will give you a good deal on them as they are virtually new and give the car quite a bit of power. Sound is unbeliveable!
