I had to drive on a flat until I reached a safe place to turn off...here is the result. Thank goodness it didn't destroy the rim.

I don't know how you managed it, but driving 60 on a flat tire is an extremely bad idea, and unsafe for those around you.

That's quiet a gamble you took there. If you call 911 the police will call a tow truck for you. Had there been a mishap while you were driving with a hobbled wheel and it was proven that you knew it was in this condition, it's hard to fathom all of the potential liabilities you may have faced. Even your own insurance copany's lawyers would have washed their hands of you citing to some fine print in the policy about your operating an unsafe vehicle.
I don't know about most insurance companies but with Progressive they give you road side assistance as part of the coverage. Others will charge you a little extra.
When you get two flats and actually make it a service station or pep boys it's time to fold them. Clearly the odds were against you on this day.

AAA did not help me. I called them. I am canceling my service with them. They are useless. I once called them to help me a while back. It took them 5 hours to get to me.

You must be in a bad area AAA has yet to let me down. wood. And I used more than my fair share of uses.
