looks like you will have to get to the pads.
the parts are not that expensive, but it is not a simple process.
if you already have the cam locking/timing tool you can give it a go.
my engine doesn't rattle at all at the moment (76k) , but camshaft deviation readings shows i will probably have to do it in the feature.
