Thanks Ekam - I had already read Mike Focke's (and some other articles) re: Boxster batteries and on locating and re-routing the emergency front hood release and was, as indicated, hoping to avoid the latter. Regardless of battery maintenance and the various features on the Boxster designed to reduce battery drain when the engine is turned off, there is still the risk of a malfunction/short in the electrical system leading to a dead battery.
As I live near Toronto, can I ask where you purchased your Optima?
