Repair prices reasonable?

Several days ago, the CEL on my '00 S went off.

I thought it was just an oxygen sensor but instead, the local dealer found that there was a crack near the base of the tube that leads from the oil filler to the engine. This causes air to enter into the engine. Replacement cost $ 450.00

Along with that, the dealer also found the rear axle's CV boots cracked $ 650.00, gas cap mechanism $ 150.00, rear deck console lid's hinges retrofit kit $ 110.00, brake flush $ 99.00 (summer special).

Are these repair prices reasonable?

The only way I know to approach this is to:

A-Find out what their labor rate is

B-Are you paying list for parts?

C-What hour/time factor are they using.

With this info, you can comparison shop.

What Brucelee said and it looks like an easy replacement if you want to DIY it. I have pics of the part at home from my '00 model. I'd guess about 2 hours to replace it since one end has to be reached from underneath. I don't know how much for the part, but I'm sure Sunset Imports has it for much less than you're getting it locally.

how many miles do you have on your 2000 S?

I had a crack in a boot, had it replaced for ($200)

Perhaps, you should take it to a well respected Porsche Specialist Mechanic in your area.

Check out the latest issue of Excellence Mag, perhaps there is a shop in your area that is advertising.

I'm in OC too. Does Hergesheimer do warranty service, or do you take your car to the dealership for that? (Newport Beach, or other?)

Also, do you recommend a local place for detailing?

I take my car there for all service since my car unfortunately is out of warranty : (

I haven't had any experience with either Porsche dealership (Newport, or Riverside) so I wouldn't be able to help you there. You may want to start using Hergeshiemer, and have them check out warranty possibilities then shoot over to Newport to have fixed so you know exactly what is wrong before things are fixed.

Auto detailers.....good questions.

I know for a fact I would NEVER EVER EVER take it to the local, or well known car wash to have them detail it....EVER, not even for free, and gave me unlimited washes for a year!

I would check with Mar-Co Distribution in Costa Mesa 949-574-7676 and ask for 5 people they recommend. www.detailingdepot.com then go from there

Perfectlap, the car has 53,085 miles. I purchased it used back in April from a friend. I replaced the center console with an artic silver console, clear lights all around. I plan to replace the front bumper to the GT3 bumper, GT3 sideskirts, upgrade the rear bumper to the one that has the rear air diffuser built in (still indecisive about this mod because might get the sport exhaust instead), and paint the roll bar to match the exterior.

Is there an easy technique to paint the roll bar? What kind of paint should I use to paint the roll bar?
