Did you guys use real denatured alcohol (purchased from a hardware store, for example)? Not rubbing alcohol. Should have worked.

I used the stuff out of my medicine cabinet, which is indeed rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl, but also 'denatured'). Sounds like that might not be sufficient?

Right. The stuff in your medicine cabinet is not strong enough. The stuff they sell at the hardware store is mainly a solvent for some paint finished and as a fuel for fondue pots, and other camping cooking stoves. Powerful stuff.

Every home garage should have a can of denatured alcohol around for projects.

And it makes the best, and cheapest, window cleaner in the World:

1 part denatured alcohol to 2 parts distilled water.
