$265 for an oil change at the dealership??

I was a little shocked when I was quoted $265 for an oil change at my local Porsche dealership in the Washington, DC area. Is this the market price?

More than I'd pay, but probably in line with most Porsche-taxed dealer services.

Brumos here in Jacksonville quoted me $300 out the door. Included other stuff, they said. Did it myself for cost of oil and filter.

I never do anything at the dealership in DC. They are pretty expensive. I wait until I'm down in NC, where I recently had my oil and filter change for $202, which is still expensive, but I change oil every 12-15k, so it's not that bad for a yearly cost. I have 122k miles on the Boxster. YMMV

I recommend you contact Taylor @ his indy shop in Sterling, VA, for a quote; Chapman Auto Werks. I've heard great things about his shop. I'm not affiliated with this shop in any way; just sharing the info I've heard.

Typically around here its about $180-$200 at the dealer. Dealer inspection on an oil change is worthless - you can check the coolent level, tire pressures, and fill the windshield wiper reservoir yourself. The dealer is simply trying to find more repairs they can quote to you at insane prices. Do the oil change yourself for about $85.

$265 is pretty cheap for most dealers. i've had mine done once at a dealer - when i first bought the car. since then i've done it. not hard at all and something i'd recommend everyone do themselves at least once.

Yes, that's the market. An indy shop will be a little less.

$265.00 is thought to be reasonable, man these dealers have us snowed. I'd open tomorrow a quick oil change for sports cars only if I could collect 265 a clip. Hell I'd hire a physician to give them a free lube and prostate check at that price.

I'm in the boonies so no dealers for 60 miles. Also getting older so didn't want to do a change on my nice new concrete parking pad. So I ordered a filter, crush ring and a spare drain plug (not required but nice) and bought the oil locally at a discount store. A trip to the local quick lube place had me learning they do 4-5 Porsches a month. So they only take off $10 for me bringing my parts. Still lots cheaper than any mechanic/dealer would charge in total.

I do watch the whole process, get the old drain plug back in a baggie and remind them of the appropriate torque. I could have the filter back that way if I wanted it.

Costs me roughly $110 for 9L of Amsoil 5w40 and OEM oil filter kit for DIY.

I did pay $300 once at a highly reputable indy shop, never again!

i don't know if this works at every one, but a few times i have taken the boxster up to the ford-adjacent QuickLane (owned by ford, but one of those "we do all cars / simple repairs / in-and-out" places) and used their lift. i did the work myself, but it was nice to not have to get on my back and/or spill oil everywhere. the manager is cool, as long as there isn't a line waiting. i pay them $10 or so for "bringing my own" and the shop guys just stand around watching.

The Boxster is the easiest and cleanest car to do an oil change on of any car I've ever owned. I would never pay someone to do it.

A Porsche dealer in our area has run $165 oil change specials on occasion, and I try to take advantage of those occasions. I believe they usually charge the $265 also. There's a indy shop here that charges slightly less than $165.

Anyone can do an oil change by their self for around $65. It's just the sake of convenience that probably drives most folks away.

Half price the delear however you are not going to get the regular Porsche specialist inspection and whatever tuning they do while they change your oil (tire pressure, check this check that). Dealer's $250 could be a good investment you never know.

If you make good money and would rather spend your time making more of it or spending it doing other things, it's a bargain.

That's true, and when I was grinding it out everyday there were things I knew how to do but didn't want to like roofing. When it comes to cars most people like to do their own for the hobby aspect and knowing the job was done meticulously.
