Fugliest Boxster I've seen yet.
Green exterior with a tan and black interior? Huh??? I don't know I think maybe the green thing only works (quiet well) with Carreras. Quote:

Why, oh why did I drive an 03 Boxster S with 25k miles??? Yellow, Litronic, heated seats...and that wail when you're accelerating onto C-470!!!...They're asking $22,995 Which more than doubles my budget...now I just have to try and justify it to myself!

Why are you so angry. Do my skills scare you. I am young and I think I have summed you up already. I buy cars as a hobby I am not in the automotive industry. I am giving the op some car purchasing advice, I have purchased over 35 cars in my life time and I am only 36 and never have lost a dime on a vehicle. I must be doing something right. Let me make some guesses about you. You are getting near the age of retirement, your boxster is your first p car, you are obsessed and proud of a business you built up, you are not that mechanically inclined and have grown quite bitter over the years. Have I met payroll? Yep! But financially I do not need to worry about wether I wil make it or not. I am talking about purchasing skills not sales. Maybe if you would calm down and try and make friends your "million dollar company"would be a multi - million dollar company. I am not going to get into financial stats as that is rather 4th class but you may want to watch what battles you start. I may be young but it seems you have more growing up to do. |
This statement carries the fine stench of BS:
"I have purchased over 35 cars in my life time and I am only 36 and never have lost a dime on a vehicle. I must be doing something right" Having said that nobody can sum anyone up on the internet, it's not a good humanity measuring device. Regarding marketing and business, I too have some street cred in that arena. One thing will be true forever, you are only as good as the results you are posting in real time, what happened yesterday is moot. |
for the record, I would personally not try to low-ball a private seller with these sort of tactics.
I try to buy trade-ins from dealers. I rather beat them up and here in NJ that leaves some recourse if there is a major issue. I've done this in Florida as well where the consumer isn't as well protected but the prices tend to be lower and the average buyer less willing to pay up. I like to bust balls when the person is actually getting payed to get their balls busted. |
PLap, I hear you loud and clear. However I must say this, I was both respected by CFO's and treated as you suggest. I can tell you I certainly did not give the beaters any better deal and would reward the people of altruism with whatever legal perks we could throw.
PS My dad was in the car business and I don't know anyone who had a 35 car string of zero loss turnovers, I suppose it depends quite a bit on how one defines breaking even or profiting. |

I'm sure your cars are nice, the notion you buy them, drive them and sell them in a way that costs you nothing and have accomplished that feat thirty six times straight is all I question. I get buying broken and fixing, as I said we had a car dealership, cars were our business.
|
When I stated that I have never lost a dime on a vehicle I have broken even and the most I have ever cleared is around 15k. My job is to low ball people and contractors and get the best value for my money. I am in the construction and development business and employ 64 full timers and deal with hundreds of contractors a week. I buy and work on cars as a stress relief. So if the op is looking how to get the best deal I think of myself as good instructor. I am planning on selling one of my 928s4s in the next couple weeks and will post the a bill of sale when I get rid of the car. This particular car is an 88 and I have $2500 in the car now. I am changing the tb wp interior suspension wheels and exhaust and I am hoping to get a profit of at least 3k.

Remember I did not start this. Max wants to try and sum me up as a third class citizen and assumed I do not know what I am doing. He got very angry at my sarcastic advice and must have been taken advantage of before. Not my problem. But remember the old saying if you assume you may make an ......

I got no dog in this fight, I'm simply stating that the idea that thirty six times in a row you pulverized people so effectively that you never had a hiccup unexpected and lost money on these cars you flip still has an aroma.

I must say that I like buying from a person I like and trust. I am not being judgemental of anybody here. I ended up buying a Boxster. I liked the car and understood where the seller was coming from. I did look at a 911 but found the seller creepy. The 911 needed work and I just happened to like the Boxster better.
The seller's personality is very important and can indicate if regular maintenance has been done or not. When I sell a car I have to look hard in the mirror because I like to treat others as I would have them treat me. Yes I know that I have lost my man up card....again! |

You are right on how people determine loss. Financially I calculate the time driving the car as a gain and my time working on cars is a stress relief for me so my time is not considered. |

I bought my car with barely 9K miles as a trade in. spotless. The salesman was brand new out college eager to make a sale and the old owner seemed in a hurry to get into a new car. I received a 1 year powertrain warranty and the bank and Ebay (wher it was originally listed) had some deal going where I got an additional disount. None of this would have happened going through a nice friendly private owner who could have turned into a major a-hole if thigns went sour after the sale "yeah so the engine blew up? too bad". Not to mention everyone thinks they're Porsche is worth 20% more than it actually ever is. Myself included. :p With the dealer CPO and trade-ins there is this much emotional attachment: 0 |
Boxsters are in a league of their own also. I have seen them range from $2500- $20k + which has included rollers to showroom cars. We are talking about 986s now and no offense to anyone they were entry level Pcars but they still are Pcars. We also have to remember that there are tons out their in the market so it is a buyers market. So the OP should be aggressive with his buying tactics and can easily walk away from many. Everyone always thinks their car is golden and very very few actually are. I have always dealt with private owners, wholesale auctions, but I have never dealt with a Dealer and every car I have purchased I always assume the purchase "as is". It is important not to get emotionally attached to any car until it is yours!
|
haha dont tell 996 owners that their cars share almost everything from the doors forward with the "entry level" P-car
I am 33,pushing 20 something cars and can definitely say I have never made a penny on any of them lol |

Other than that, I'm a 100% loser on car deals. (Of course, I've never bought one for the purpose of flipping it. I always use 'em up. Unless I can never get it to run) |
