Question What do you use to clean the engine?

Is there anything out there that's good at cleaning but safe for the rubber and plastic?

Since there's no distributor, what needs to be covered in the Boxster when you spray it down?

TIA!

I haven't hosed down the engine, yet. I would avoid spraying the distributors though. and for the rubber and vinyl:

I use Meguiars Rubber and Vinyl cleaner purchased from an auto detailing shop in Costa Mesa, CA. its in a beige bottle with red spray top.

Love it, it cleans VERY well, but is NOT greasy like Armor All. It basically RESTORES the original luster to the finish.

I have cleaned the engine a couple of times, from the top, and there was no oil/grease residue that would lead me to hose it down at all.
A shop vac and a couple of brushes were more the ticket.

The reason I want to hose it down is my wife works for John Deere Landscapes so their driveway is gravel. Dust flies everywhere and the whole engine gets coated with dirt. It would take forever to wipe it down and get it all clean and it would only last a day or two (did that once). I'm not worried about distributors. Since it's a distributorless ignition, there are none. I'm just worried about anything up top that may not be water tight. It should be completely water tight, but I want to make sure before I start spraying.

Thanks!
