You have got to be kidding!

Or I should say, WTF! $1500 for a jar of wax?

Swissvax USA: Crystal Rock - Paul Dalton's state-of-the-art Carnauba-Glaze, 200ml

Steve Tinker 01-25-2012 03:26 PM

And that just for the wax - you still have to buy the cleaners / renovators etc as well. BIG BIG $$$
Dalton charges several thousand dollars to clean these cars - there was a write up in one of the UK Porsche magazines last year on how he goes about it - 2/3 days to complete....
And he has a waiting list - go figure.
I think he charged over 2,000 UK POUNDS to scrub up Rod Stewarts Ferrari !!

Johnny Danger 01-25-2012 03:50 PM

Wow, the most that I even paid for a wax job was $50. And that was a few years back when I was in Singapore . Next time I'll bring my car . ;)

Its not THAT kind of wax job, but for $1500 they better include a "happy ending."

Johnny Danger 01-25-2012 04:05 PM

For $1500, I could keep all of my "birds" in Oil of Olay for a lifetime .

Eric G 01-25-2012 04:08 PM

and a reach around to boot!

Wax snobbery knows no bounds.

WhipE350 01-25-2012 05:28 PM

Interesting how this guy uses the word filler so many times. Not the way I like to do it though, when I'm done the swirls are gone and not filled....but then I can't do a car in 1 hour the way they are doing, my work takes many hours depending on what the car owners needs are. The problem with fillers is the problems show right back up again a few washes later.

Now this guy does it right, unfortunately it's a lonely world for the visually sensitive. Glad I have a daytime IT job :).

Todd Cooperider Online | The voice of the highline detailing industry

Ha too funny - turns out Todd uses that $1500 stuff as a final...I'm sure the cars still look good before be puts it on to protect them.

Jager 01-25-2012 07:18 PM

If you are not familiar with clay give this stuff a try:
MeguiarsDirect.com: Smooth Surface® Clay Kit

I was skeptical about using clay on auto surfaces but it does work. It removes dirt even after you washed your car and makes the surface very clean and smooth... Then apply wax of choice.

madmods 01-26-2012 02:17 AM

LOLLLLL now this got to be the catch of the century :) Always told my wife that cosmetics should be something that politician should ban. The list is growing obviously and can't believe that now "guys" are falling for this.

I mean.... put on some peanut butter on your paint and wipe out the excess of it. The results will be identical (good ol'skippy smooth).

Fak this is hilarious... I'm almost pissing myself here. "A Jar Of Wax" lolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

(A+ on the Meg's clay kit tho, now that thing works as it should)

Wax on Wax off Danielson, then you'll have enough to buy this wax.

Mark_T 01-26-2012 05:18 AM

Daniel-san

wvboxst3r 01-26-2012 05:33 AM

I would need a 97% off coupon before I would look at that.

ekam 01-26-2012 05:40 AM

$10k.

thstone 01-26-2012 09:08 AM

They should call it "divorce wax" because there isn't any way that your wife is going to believe that you spent $1,500 on "wax for your car".

Johnny Danger 01-26-2012 09:11 AM

I just purchased a jar of it . I'll report back on it's performance .

Good luck, once they see the year of the Dangermobile they won't ship it, vehicle can't be more than three years old. It's like that Columbia house with the fine print stuff...

I know bare minimum about detailing cars and the only bit I know about a "professional" detailer is the fact that he/she would never, never, wash or micro fiber a million dollar car "outdoor"

Pissing myself even more lolllllllll

Nice, I heard tales about the 4 floors!! John O, no unicef, only candy, never stole from employers, could have a lot but didn't..

Perfectlap 01-26-2012 11:18 AM

a professional detailer could make an identical car look 99.9% as good using a $30 wax. Only an extremely well-trained eye could pick the $30 from $1,500 wax.

The bling comes from the preparation before the wax goes on.

+1! Car looks 95% and then the final layer (not filler) give the reflectivity.

Thats probably 50% of the value of your car - why would you?????????

Unless you bought it to polish something else

DenverSteve 01-26-2012 09:21 PM

For that price you could have a detailer come over to the house every quarter of the year for a full pro detail. Mother's California Gold pure carnuba wax is about $15 per bottle. For the extra, I would pay "my guy" to wax on and wax off. However, the car's so small it takes no time to do it yourself.

The "premium" detailing products industry is largely marketing bull****************.

The 'budget' detailing products you see in most auto stores are basically the same product but they'll just give you a less concentrated product so that you have to use more of it (and buy more later). That dilution of the basic ingredients also means you have to put in more elbow grease but you'll still achieve 99.9% of the same result. There's also the idiot factor. Too many guys can not be trusted with a concentrated paint product.....which said ding bat will use to wax his tires with.
Meanwhile the "premium" detailing products go the opposite way and sell you 16 step kits when all you nedd is two or three.

i didn't have a laugh like that for a long time.
they should make a sitcom based on this thread.

Johnny Danger 01-27-2012 01:30 PM

Ok, I just finished my first detailing project. And, wow did my hot water heater come out nice . Gee, I never thought that such an ordinary household object could look so shiny . I'm seriously thinking about putting some Armor All on the hoses too. I highly recommend Swisswax to anyone who $1500 to spend on car wax.

Johnny Danger 01-27-2012 06:27 PM

I got an email back from Swisswax stating that their product can prevent IMS failure. Apparently, the smooth shine and coating that the wax leaves behind greatly reduces wind-drag. Less wind resistance means less draw on the engine . In turn, this equates into less engine fatigue . Thus, reducing the risk of IMS failure . For that reason I decided to purchase 2 more jars .

Those water heater concours events have very stringent judging, so you need a high end product to be compeditive. The trophy is totally worth it.

madmods 01-28-2012 11:01 AM

I bet Danger is using the WAX for a totally different purpose (hair style maybe?!) and hiding the pot behind the water heater? Com'on 1500 invest got to be for something else than the water tank and car alone
