Sorry to hear that. Mine went out twice last night about 4 hours total and I was seriously considering the same thing. It's impressive how long a house will stay warm without heat. I have a 7 month old to keep warm. This place has some serious infrastructure problems.

As for the car, I get it, if it had a vage you would screw it, got it. After all, that would be the only way you could conclude that what I'm looking at will still trail it and since we are two people in anonymity, who effing cares anyhow?

I'm done with the subject.

Ghost,

Relax, it's all fun here. We're just busting your ball bearings a little bit .

Yeah. That's it. I appreciate a different car than you and I'm no fan? Cute. :D

There's sports cars and there's GTs. No right or wrong, just different. But the "experience" that you put in quotes is significantly different.

Yep. And I prefer sports cars. That's why I drive a Boxster not a GT. Happy Motoring. ;)

As much as I love my Boxster, it's pretty numb compared to a sports car like an unassisted 911 that's 400 pounds lighter. It's why I'll never sell my 2300 pound Rx7.

fivepointnine 01-19-2012 08:13 PM

Ive had a couple RX7's (a 85 and a 87 turbo II with a street port) the 85 was great till an apex seal blew around 120k miles and the turbo II was fast as hell when it decided to run lol for me the reliability of an RX is just not there or I would have a RX8 or FD sitting in my driveway right now....my next car will be a long hood 911 or 944S2

but I love that yellowbird

Perfectlap 01-20-2012 06:41 AM

I see the historical importance but $250K in 2012 sports car dollars is like $500K in 2007 sports car dollars. You'll think a little harder about how much history you'll be willing to pay for.

There are other vintage cars I'd apply that kind of coin towards.

thstone 01-20-2012 10:25 AM

^ Anyone who has that kind of coin likely already has a garage full of other vintage cars. The Yellowbird isn't where someone starts their car collection, its where they complete it.

I've had 4 rotary engines and 2 rx7s. 1 carbon locked when the car was 1 month old, one popped a coolant line and overheated and died, the last one I replaced lasted 180,000 miles and I only replaced it to put in a 13b. i'll keep replacing the engines for as long as the rest of this car will last. They're cheap.

I spent a bunch of time this fall looking for a track car and drove quite a few 944s. I just love that car. The chassis and steering are sooo much more intimate than even the Boxster, no wonder that car is so well regarded. S2s are tough to find though.

The Radium King 01-20-2012 07:51 PM

no to the turbo?

every time I stop by my mechanics shop I'm certain to see two things. A 911 restoration under works and a 944 needing work.

I've thought about buying a track toy as well. It will probably be an older Miata. i beat the pants off that car and NOT ONCE did it whine or quit. The engine is bullet proof, suspension and exhaust mods are a pittance, tires are cheap since they're 15" and the car does not feel the slightest bit modern and disconnected. i don't really thing you can find all that wrapped up in one car that wouldn't require a trailer (street legal). Why did I ever sell that car...I spent twice as much overhauling the Boxster.

I ended up with an MR2 with a V6 swap. Manual everything (windows, locks, non-abs brakes, steering), 2600 pounds, mid engine, cheap (1.5% of the cost of the CTR :)). Should be fun.

The Radium King 01-21-2012 12:25 PM

and no tears if you wad it up.

Yip. Roll bar and harness are the first things to go in. Let's start the insanity.

my friend in college had a 91 MR2 turbo....man o man that car was insane to drive! I cruised around in a 91 NA MR2

thstone 01-21-2012 10:28 PM

I bought a brand new 1986 MR2. Awesome car. Incredible fun. Super reliable. Perfectly balanced. Everyone who drove it, loved it.

Sold it after 140,000 miles and bought a 1971 Triumph TR-6. Talk about two completely different sports cars, it was like they were made on different planets not just different continents.

ekam 01-22-2012 05:34 AM

I love those first gen MR2 but anyone over 6' won't fit in it and I'm 6'2. 2nd gen Turbos are way faster but they seem to hug walls like the 911s. 3rd gen are really nice once you do a 3SGTE swap or Turbo install.
