987 Boxster 5sp vs 6sp

Hi all, I'm looking to buy a new/used base 2005 Boxster. I have a question regarding the manual transmission. Is the 6sp a worthy upgrade? I dont know how to drive the stick just yet so I dont really know what is the pro and cons of each. I'll definately getting a stick though. Thanks

you wont be disapointed.
driving a six speed is one of the great pleasures of sports car driving.
the final gear always comes with a smile.

my advice is find an 04 or 03 BoxsterS.
A truly amazing value in sportscars.

Thanks for the replies. A used 04 boxster S is about the same price as a slightly used 05 base boxster. And I prefer the new style much better.

Are there really any big performance improvements with a 6 speed vs. a 5 speed? I've never driven a 6 speed in a Boxster, but I did drive a 350Z with a 6 speed, and unless you were doing about 100, you never needed it.....

Anybody?

There is not a huge advantage over a 5 speed. The biggest one being the ratios are closer together allowing the car to stay up in the power band better. If anything, the 6 speed should be in the base box, not the S, because it has less TQ and a narrower powerband.
