Clutch/fluid need warm up?

Hello all,
Probably a dumb question, but I'll ask anyways.....I notice that when first operating my clutch after the car has sat overnight, the first 5-10 shifts seem a little tougher.....No problem getting into gear, but the shifts are not as smooth as after driving after 5 minutes, then smooth sailing after that....Probably normal I'm guessing, but thought I'd ask the resident experts anyways.....

Transmission fluid does not NEED to be warmed up for proper operation but yes, a cold tranny with cold fluid will be a little more balky to shift.

Kind of what I was expecting, I hadn't driven many manual shift cars in a while before buying, and wanted to make sure.....Thanks for the confirmation eslai! Much appreciated

On the 987 and many other cars, on startup of a cold-manual, the car runs at fast idle (about 1200 rpms) for about 90 seconds then goes down. It's been my experience in the past that these vehicles run better (less balky) if you wait till the revs die to normal (sub 1k). Just my .02 cents.

All hydraulic clutches are like that. You notice it more as the clutch pad wears.

It's strange because the owner's manual says not to let the Boxster sit at idle, rather drive it immediately. If you do that, the clutch is stiff. If you let it warm up, cat fire risk. That, and it's all backward from what your dad said to do when you were a kid. I'd been warming my cars up for 10 minutes like dad said for years until we got the Boxster and I read the manual. Then I read the manuals to all of the other cars and I was doing everything wrong!

Oh wow, I never thought about extra fuel lighting off the cat like that.. hmm...
