I had the same issue. I looked closely at the original (bent) rod and measured where the witness mark was on the slot from the washer. I marked it at the same spot on the new rod and set it appropriately. You could also try measuring the position of the other side rod - it's important that they be the same length.

Peter...Thanks. I am going to go with matching it to the right (undamaged) side.

What do you think caused the failure and severe bending of the original rod?

Anyone else? Ideas?
