Use the key, dummy!

I left my Boxster in the garage for a week while I took a holiday vacation. I came back to the car and pressed the "door unlock" button on the remote, and oh no! The remote didn't work! This is my only key and for a moment I panicked. How was I supposed to get in the car if the remote didnt work!!

I got closer to the car, the remote didnt work. I went around to the other side of the car, the remote didnt work. I put the remote reeeaallly close to the windshield, but it still didn't unlock the car. Then....

Duh... put the key in the door lock and twist!

The interesting thing is that then the alarm went off!! And then I pressed the remote and it turned off the alarm. And after that the remote works just fine. It appears that the car alarm went into a hibernate mode and had to be woken up with this method. I couldn't find any mention of it in the manual.

I know this is an automatic function. It requires you to use the key after three (five?) days of disuse..

Yeah, they do that to preserve the battery. You're supposed to unlock it with the key, then use the remote before opening the door to disarm the alarm. Turning the key to unlock the door reactivates the key fob.

I do believe that is where most ideas, inventions and masterpieces are formulated. It is amazing what the "throne of knowledge" has produced...in more ways than one!
