the little round piece is indeed the actuation rod for the slave cylinder. in your photos, the actuation rod is under the black boot.

if you press the clutch without the rod in place, it is possible to burst the slave cylinder. how did this rod even come out? with everything properly in place, it's not really likely.....

at any rate, get a new slave cylinder to be sure. they're less than $100. get it installed & then you'll need to bleed the clutch. a power bleeder works best if you can get your hands on one. the motive power bleeder for porsches is around $60 i think. well worth it in this case.
