As far as having a chrome appearance applied, it is possible, but tough to do. There are a couple of options as far as I can tell. 1) Use a rattle-can to spray on chrome paint. I've never done this, but have seen it done and it doesn't look very good IMO. 2) There is a spray-on chrome process that consists of a base that's sprayed onto the item followed by the chrome-appearing layer and finally a clear coat. This process looks pretty good. But, from the research I've done thus far it is very expensive. So I don't see either option as good right now, unfortunately.

If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

Thanks,

ddb
Metalizing is a process of aluminum coating od plastics that's been used forever. Makes the nice, shiney, hard surface that you see on most "fake" chrome.

kpm,

Thanks for the link. They have a lot of interesting products, with many seemingly DIY friendly. I'm not setup to do this type of work, but would consider farming it out under the right circumstances.

blue200s,

Thanks for mentioning metalizing, a process I didn't know about. A quick search turned up a lot of hits that I can research.
