My experience has been that the little peak in the middle of the window will form regardless of temperature. When the plastic is warm it will fold easier, no question. My concern would be that as the peak is forced out during the lowering process, it is going to stretch the plastic in that one area, and ultimately split it.
The objective of the chop is to keep that from happening.
