I've got the 3M clear bra kit...
Yes, it's got more orange peel effect than the previous ventureshield product that I had on my scirocco.
It does go yellow but so did the ventureshield. But since my car is black in color it is not so obvious - only obvious on the headlights now. But I live in the tropics, so that might be why it yellows quicker.
And yes, self installing the 3M product is not for the inexperienced.... I managed to do the headlights, the bonnet, even the side mirror covers, but I failed on the bumper... the 3M kit calls for extreme stretching in order to install the bumper... and try and try I did, but there was no way I could stretch the clear film about 6" on either side and make it fit the holes for the radiator intakes and the ends of the bumper... gave up, my bumper is still unprotected and has too many stone chips now... will wait till I get that re-sprayed first...
