Sorry just an update. Im 90% sure this user error, i still cant get them to click.in, but the hex key can still move the light in and out, just wont click the damn thing in, anyone else have this issue?

did you check to make sure the "hook" on the bottom of the assembly has not broken off? also make sure you are putting them so that the nubs on the bottom/side of the assembly are in the sliding track that holds the assembly down.

The hooks are there and all the tabs are running in theor grooves, confusing the hell out of me

just a quick note, if i am remembering correctly...

to remove, you turn the wrench forward, towards the front of the car. the suggestion is to leave it in place and let it "fall" back down. however, i never do. when i insert the headlamp assembly, the groove that catches the hook is not flush with the assembly holder, but slightly up (again i may be doing it wrong) and once the headlight is slid most of the way back in (90% maybe?) i put the wrench back in, push the headlight and can see the wrench start to turn, then turn the wrench in the opposite direction - so that it points towards the rear of the car. there is a very loud POP and the headlight is locked in place.
