golf clubs
Any ideas on a good safe way to handle two sets of golf clubs in or on my boxster? Thanks for your ideas..........

No prob as long as you take the woods out of the bags and put the in the back after the two bags are in. Play around with it if either are large bags though you are screwed.

I suggest getting the Das trunk Shield. Hit a pot hole or something and the clubs could lift into the top of the trunk. If the club heads are sitting below the fender I would place some foam or something thick but soft in between the clubs and the fender. I remove all the clubs and put them into to the trunk. Some can leave them in the bag but I'm paranoid about having a club slip out and fall onto the fenders so I handle with care.

Good suggestion. The box metal can be pretty soft back there and I have had to take out more than one "outie" from a trunk or too in my time!

is there any cheap way removing an outie? I have a tiny one on the trunk. Left a shoe box back there and the simple cardboard banged against the inside. Its hard to notice, not enough to repaint but its annoying.

I don't know of any. I have a dent guy, so he handles this for me. Given the paint finish, how highly visable the flat surface is, I am loathe to try this myself.

The golf club dilemma is an interesting one, especially since one of the original design parameters for the Boxster was supposed to have been the ability to accomodate a set of clubs. (see "Porsche Boxster" by John Lamm, p.63).
While separating the load into the clubs in one compartment, and the bag in another, I suppose could be spun into qualifying as the ability to carry a set of clubs, I submit that the Boxster design team fell short on that one. Perhaps the solution is to use the Beemer SUV for golf outings. Sadly, this prevents the grand entrance in the Porsche into the club parking lot on Saturday morning, but what are you going to do? |
well if it turns into too big of a dilemma you might want to try
birdautomitive.com They installed my Boxster bike rack and sell a golf bag attachment. THe entire unit slides into pipe sleeves that bolt underneath the car. So when not in use its not at all visible. They also have a ski/snowboard rack for you Colorado ski guys. It takes about 20 minutes to install at your trustee mechanics garage (much easier with a lift). http://birdautomotive.com/XrackRear-2.jpg http://birdautomotive.com/GolfSideView-3.jpg |
