Chicks Car?
So, last week I told some of my friends that I was thinking of getting a Boxster. Their immediate reactions was “That’s a Chicks Car”. Have any of you guys heard that? I have started noticing that there seems to be a greater number of women driving Boxsters than say Caymans or 911s. Have we got another Miata here?

Says more about your friends than about the car.
Of course women like Boxsters, they drive like a dream.
Did you ever drive one?

That's just one of the insults hurled at the Boxster ("poor man's Porsche", "not a real Porsche", etc). Heck, 'Two and a Half Men' did an entire show about the Boxster being a chick car.
There's a good chance the people who sling those statements have never driven one before. Or they own a 911 for the status it gives them, so belittling a Boxster owner only improves their status. Neither is a group you want forming your opinions.
Several yrs ago I took my 01S to a Cubs game. Scored a great parking spot just NW of Wrigley. A group of about 5 people in their late teens walked by. They checked out my car as they walked by. One wanted to impress the group by saying "that's not a real Porsche". I bet if I tossed him the keys he'd have jumped at the chance to drive it.

A friend in the UK used to have a Boxster and I mocked him when I had a 996TT.
Having switched through multiple cars since and tracked my Boxster, I apologized last week.
Drive one and decide.

I bought my Boxster AND Miata because they are the modern versions of the Triumph TR-6 and Spitfire that I owned back in the 80's (and if anyone thinks that a Boxster is unreliable, then they never owned a 1960's or 70's British sports car!)
For me, the Boxster and Miata provide the purest sports car experience on the road today at almost any price.
Also, I looked at a few 2010 Boxsters last weekend at the dealer and a $60,000 Boxster is hardly a "poor man's" car. Funny but no one ever called my BMW X5 a "poor man's" SUV at about the same price?

My opinion is best illustrated in my recent saga-
First porsche was a 986. Loved it to death, but felt it needed more power
2nd was a 996. Had the power, didn't feel as fun
Bought a Lotus Elise. Had the fun, didn't have ANY practicality
Bought another 996. Had the practicality, still not as fun
Bought a 996tt and tuned the hell out of it. TOO beastly for city streets but still a blast
Wife had a cayenne somewhere in that string of cars
I've literally been through the entire porsche line and have gone full circle back to the boxster for fun driving. I feel like my opinion of the car is much better originated than what a friend thinks he knows. It is an awesome machine.

If chicks love the boxster....
and the way things normally work is that men pursue and enjoy the attention of females, then deductive reasoning says that you would have to be really straight to drive one and really gay not to?

A chick's car....It's really for anyone....
A chick magnet....freaking absolutely! Love it as a typical gas station fill up usually ends up in some sort of conversation...
Was down at my local building and codes department the other day and one of the receptionists went crazy...saw the car sitting outside top down and shouted out "WHO HAS THE PORSCHE OUT THERE!!" Me being my humble self I raised my hand and she said "what do you do and are you married?"
Gotta love that man!!!

I traded my Boxster in last October on a 911 C2 but did it mainly to get in the 300hp range. I gotta say I miss my Boxster in a lot of ways. If anyone ever bashes on the Boxster and they've never driven a Porsche it's simply jealousy. If it's a 911 owner bashing on it they either have never driven one or they're just acting superior. Love my 911 but I also loved my Boxster. It's a great car. Just don't get a pink one.
What kills me are Cayman owners bashing on the Boxster when the Cayman is essentially a hard top Boxster with a little more hp. I think this whole "chicks car" thing is a general blanket statement against 2 seater convertibles. Boxster, Miata, MR2 Spyder, Solstice, Saturn Sky, S2000, what have you. The first day I had my 02 Carrera Cabrio some random guy mistook my car for a Boxster and called me a f*ggot from across the street. Then he drove away in his little 30 yr old four cylinder rusted out beater pickup. Plain jealousy.
If you get a Porsche be prepared to be called one derogatory name or another. It comes with the car. I'm fine with that.

Who cares? If you're buying a car to satisfy your knuckle dragging friends, you shouldn't be buying a car in the first place. Let those idiots drive your a$$ around.

I said Miata is gay 'cause this is the general view, not mine. I think both Miata and Boxster are GREAT cars and people who stereotype are idiots.
I hope this is clear now...

It might be a chick car, or might not be. But it's no slouch. On the track (in heavy rain) I chased down a Mitsubishi Evo, 2 Carrera 4S's, and a 928 hill-climb car. It's a great car to drive regardless of what people say about it. Nobody's ever told me to my face that it's a chick car. I've had people ask me how I could afford a "Carrera" too (debadge it, and 75% of the people won't know which model it is).
I bet if you get one, your friends will all want rides in your chick car.
