Replacement of plastic clips riveted to roll hoops

I got a kit to replace the plastic clips riveted to the roll hoops. However, it appears in order to do this job, one needs to remove the roll bar padding. It also appears this padding cannot be removed without breaking the fasteners that keep in on the roll hoops. As goofy as this may sound, I think removal of the padding means the pad is no longer able to attach to the roll hoops with OEM fasteners. It seems as if they would need to be zip tied back on or something similar. Can anyone confirm this?
